His son Lucas Carabajal, who accompanied him for years in his presentations with the El Rejunte group, posted the following message on his social networks:

Specifically, Lucas and Martín “Zurdo” López, another musician who participated in El Rejunte, paid tribute to the folklorist last week at the Festival Termas de Río Hondo Basket, with their current bands, Delusions of Grandeur and Descent.

His career

Born on July 17, 1943 in Quimilí, 200 kilometers from the city of Santiago del Estero, Juan Carlos was also a journalist, with a recognized career in radio, newspapers and magazines, and a countryside teacher.

During his musical career he has been associated with important melodists such as Miguel Simón, Onofre Paz, Horacio Banegas, Peteco, Kaly, Cuti and Carlso Carabajal, Néstor Garnica or Elpidio Herrera. From his pen, famous songs were born that were performed by figures such as Peteco Carabajal, Los Carabajal, Alfredo Ábalos, Suna Rocha, Los Nocheros, Chaqueño Palavecino, Los Manseros Santiagueños or Los Tekis.

One of the best known milestones of his career was the tour he did in 2001 in Japan.

He recorded three albums with El Rejunte and three others as a soloist, which he compiled his tours throughout the country entitled “De pueblo en pueblo”. She has toured over a hundred cities and has always invited local artists to be part of the show.

The book was born from his experiences and from the anecdotes of that minstrel experience John of the streets, which will be followed by others dedicated to his native Quimilí and the Carabajal family, symbol of Santiago’s folklore.

He also directed the Santiago, Guitarra and Copla magazine and collaborated with the Santiago El Liberal newspapers, Nuevo Diario and the magazines El Federal and Entre Tango y Folklore.

Carabajal’s remains were veiled today Saturday in a funeral home located at 162 La Plata in the capital Santiago, his relatives told the provincial press.
