There are those who prefer to combine savory with sweet. Others don’t. The menuwhose cast is led by Ralph Fiennes Y Anya Taylor-Joy, combines laughter and drama, or should we say terror. Is it a thriller? Sometimes it is difficult to define the flavors that reach our palate.

why in the end The menu it’s a horror movie, but flavored with good comedy, so that anyone who doesn’t like the flavors of horror, well, digest it.

The title menu refers to an exclusive culinary event. There will be twelve diners, and the coverage is steep: 1,250 dollars each. So those who arrive at Hawthorn, on a private island invited by chef Slowik (Ralph Fiennes), who will serve them an elaborate multi-course dinner, are obviously people of money. Some disgraced actor (John Leguizamo), a couple already accustomed to those banquets, a trio of nouveau riche.

Furthermore, some snobs, like Tyler (Nicholas Hault), who is accompanied -at the last moment- by Margo (Anya Taylor-Joy), plus a food critic (Janet McTeer, of ozarks) who in his lie discovered Slowik, among other guests.

For some reason, one guesses, those 12 diners are invited there (11, except Margo). Everyone is excited – except Margo – to have “the experience”. For some reason, one guesses, those 12 diners are invited there (11, except Margo). Everyone is excited – except Margo – to have “the experience”.

But they shouldn’t eat, underlines the chef, but savor. What matters is enjoying the experience. Each presentation of a new dish will have a whole theatricality. But there is Margo. And Slowik didn’t expect it among his guests. Her presence irritates the pretentious chef, and he doesn’t even like her comments on what he sees and tastes -including a plate of bread…without bread-.

From the director of “Succession”

Director of successionMark Mylod, has previous skills in television comedy, before directing episodes of game of Thrones and the aforementioned HBO series. So taking rich characters and tearing them apart is nothing new to him.

There isn’t much ferocity on screen, as the director prefers to create climates and not images that portray horror (well, there are some that do).

Besides Fiennes and Taylor-Joy, Hong Chau (who is also very good at The whalealong with Brandan Fraser), who is the main assistant chef between the open kitchen and where the food is served.

The menu It’s most convincing in its first hour, when the occasional secret and several rounds of cooking still remain to be revealed. Because in the final act, much of the property that had been built within that chic setting with a view of the sea through armored windows is disarmed. Like those cakes that rise and then deflate.

If revenge is a dish best served cold, here, well, things are a little hotter, but summarizing it is still at the right point. Well done, as they say when ordering a steak.
