The famous Cuban singer-songwriter Pablo Milanés died at the age of 79 in Madridthe city where he had lived since 2017 and where he had been hospitalized for just over a week.
“With great pain and sadness, we regret to inform you that the teacher Pablo Milanés passed away this morning of November 22nd in Madrid. We are deeply grateful for all the expressions of love and support from all of his family and friends during these difficult times,” the artist’s art department confirmed in an official statement posted on Facebook.
There, he added: “May he rest in the love and peace he has always given.. She will forever remain in our memory.”
Milanese, one of the most recognized voices in Cuban musiche was the founder and architect of the Nueva Trova sound together with other famous artists such as Silvio Rodríguez and Noel Nicola.
Author of classics such as “Yolanda”, Milanés has released more than 40 albums throughout his career and has won, among others, the Cuban National Music Award and the Latin Grammy for Musical Excellence.
As announced on Saturday the 12th of this month, Milanés He was admitted to a sanatorium in Madrid for “the effects of a series of recurring infections” and to receive “treatments that do not exist in your country”. At that moment he was “stable” and in “a clinical situation” “secondary to an oncohaematological disease” from which he had been suffering for several years.
For these reasons, he canceled the concerts he had planned, including the one scheduled for the Sunday following this communication, in the Spanish city of Pamplona.
He would also perform on November 30 in Mexico City and December 5 in Santo Domingo, according to the artist’s schedule accessed on his website.
On January 30 of this year, the artist suffered the loss of her daughter, the Cuban singer Suylén Milanés Benet, who died at the age of 50 due to a stroke.
