a strange feeling goes away a strange world. Because, on the one hand, all the visual images are complemented by more realistic and less stereotyped characters than any of the latest creations by Disney animationbut on the other hand, the story it tells, by itself, is so small that it prevents the film from doing so Don Sala and Qui Nguyen to make a big leap and become a milestone.

It is an adventure film in the style of Journey to the Center of the Earthwith the spirit of Jules Verne and HG Wells hovering over every stage.

the characters of a strange world -not those we will see in an ecosystem that is the strange world, but those who inhabit Avalonia, a civilization surrounded by mountains, from which they cannot get out, precisely because of that ring of mountains- are basically the Clade family.

A family of shippers.

There is a shortage of energy resources, and on an expedition 25 years ago, grandfather Jaeger (voice of Denis Quid if they find undubbed copies in Spanish) travels with his son Searcher (Jake Gyllenhaal: they had already played father and son in The day after tomorrow) through the mountains.

But they end up separating: Searcher finds “something”, a luminous plant he calls “pando”, and which gives energy as if it were fuel or electricity, and his father decides to continue on his way, alone.

Stupendous

We were saying that a quarter of a century has passed, and now that the Clades are a family (Searcher has a black partner, a son and a dog), they have become farmers and everything is going perfectly, until it is discovered that the energy source would be threatened.

Stupendous

And then we have to embark on this journey towards an impressive ecosystem, which questions everything we know about species, whether they are flying or not, trees, plants, floating streams, surfaces between spongy and rubbery.

What happens, and what they have to fight for, is the minimal, small story, which, had it had any other originality, would have turned A Strange World into almost complete entertainment.

But nothing seems wrong, and diversity is the order of the day: the couple are interracial, Ethan is gay, and Leyenda, the family dog, has three legs.

And the variety, the plurality of being is also among the Clade, for Searcher is clearly more akin to “green” and renewable energy and farming than to being a shipper like his father Jaeger, whom they meet again in that unusual journey.

And the relationship between family members is central, a particular emphasis has been placed between the grandfather, the father and the son – which is what prevails – it doesn’t appear out of nowhere, it’s true, but it is the emotional support of the story.

That said, the father-son dynamic, environmental issues, and adventure are the triumvirate or trio upon which this movie is based for having fun with the boys.
