People say you should always believe in your dreams, but sometimes that saying is a lot more literal than it sounds. An American publication claimed that the director and screenwriter of Avatar: The Path of Water, James Camerondreamed – yes, dreamed – of a franchise.
In a recent interview for GQthe director has revealed that the ideas for the franchise Avatarsthat he already has three more episodes in preparation, it occurred to him in a dream “when I was only 19.”
Young Cameron did not know at the time, but the specialized site Collider added the sheep: after having the dream, Cameron decided to make some drawings that became the first concepts of what is now called “franchise”.
“Cameron also knew it wasn’t going to be an easy project to pull off, so he first had to establish himself as a hitmaker before a studio would trust him to tell the story of the blue aliens who are fighting for their homeland,” the same outlet said.
We read Cameron: “I woke up after dreaming With this kind of bioluminescent forest, with these trees that look like fiberoptic lamps, and this river that glowed with bioluminescent particles, plus sort of purple moss on the ground that lit up when you walked on it.”
Sleep
Incredible things that some people dream. “And I also dreamed about these kinds of lizards that didn’t look like much until they took off and then they turned into these spinning fans, like living frisbees, which and descend and land on something. It was all in the dream. I woke up super excited and really drew it. So I actually have a design.”
And it was said: “See this? See these glowing trees? See this glowing lizard circling around, which is orange? See the purple moss?” And they’re all gone…”. Bah, actually, that’s when young Cameron woke up.
Upon its release, Avatars became the highest-grossing film in history, a record previously held by Cameron himself with titanic. For the next four installments, Cameron promises “many new technologies developed exclusively for Avatarsincluding the ability to see a 3D movies without 3D glasses“.
According to Colliderthe entire Avatar universe risked not seeing the light: the ambitious project cost a lot Avatar: The Path of Water it will have to become one of the highest-grossing films of all time just to break even financially.
Which means something less than two billion dollars in ticket sales it could already jeopardize the future of the franchise.
In the same interview with GQCameron didn’t mince words and said so Avatar: The Path of Water was “fucking expensive”, and that the sequel was “the worst business case in cinematic history”. However, the director showed confidence and revealed that he likes tough projects and those are a magnet for him.
