His career

Clarence Gilyard was born in 1955 in Moses Lake, Washington. After finishing high school, he spent brief stints in the Air Force and Sterling College of Kansas before enrolling at Cal State University at Long Beach, where he also he enrolled in acting classes.

As he began to see progress in his acting journey, Gilyard dropped out of college and appeared in smaller television roles.

His big break came in 1989 when he landed the role of Conrad McMasters in the NBC drama Matlockwith Andy Griffith.

In 1993 he left Matlock to act in Walker, Texas Ranger on CBS, the television series with which he has become closest. Alongside Chuck Norris, Gilyard played Sergeant James “Jimmy” Trivett.

The phenomenally successful series ran for eight seasons with a total of 203 episodes. .
