A new trailer for the upcoming Indiana Jones movie, which doesn’t have a title yet, was unveiled at Comic Con in Sao Paulo. It will be the fifth time Harrison Ford be an archaeologist. the actor of witness in danger and the saga of Star Wars he is already 80 years old.
On the other hand, by now we know the title of the film: Indiana Jones and Dial of Fatewhich translated would literally be The Dial of Destiny.
Filming the film was not easy. After countless delays and postponements due to inconvenience of all kinds, shooting in the time of COVID-19 was a challenge for everyone. But the fifth Indiana Jones movie had a few more problems than most. Originally scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2021, it was moved to July 29, 2022 due to the pandemic.
Finally, Disney announced that it would be released on June 30, 2023.
It is the first film of the adventure franchise produced by The Walt Disney Company after the purchase of the Lucasfilm studio. But Mickey’s company has encountered countless obstacles.
For example, the injury of the protagonist, Harrison Ford, who was injured in June of last year while rehearsing a fight scene. The extent of his injury was not immediately known, but it hit his shoulder. Director James Mangold continued to shoot the same, while the appropriate treatment for the actor was considered.
But the scenes in which Ford was to appear could not be filmed for three months, the time it took for him to recover from the stroke.
In November, Nic Cupac, one of 100 members of the technical team, was found dead of natural causes in his hotel room in the city of Fez, Morocco, where the film was being shot. He was a veteran cameraman in the film industry who has also worked with the likes of Jurassic Park, Harry Potter Y Star Wars.
The film’s shoot had previously been complicated when Morocco banned flights to and from the UK due to a spike in Covid cases. Indeed, Ford himself allegedly flew to the country shortly before the ban was announced and was unable to do so.
Without Spielberg
But the problems had appeared from the very moment of the conception of the project. In 2020, Steven Spielberg he stepped down as director, so for the first time in the franchise’s 39-year history he won’t be primarily responsible. Sources close to the director indicated that the decision had been made by himself, with the aim of bringing a fresh approach to the saga and appealing to a younger generation.
Spielberg stayed on as producer and chose James Mangold as replacement director, who came from hits like Logano Y against the impossible.
Very little is known yet about the plot of Indiana Jones 5. As in previous films in the franchise, Jones will likely be looking for some sort of artifact before it falls into the wrong hands. The Apollo 11 moon landing and the Roman soldiers apparently influence the story in some way and the production is said to use a digitally rejuvenated Harrison Ford for some scenes.
The screenplay is by Mangold, co-written with brothers Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth (writers of on the verge of tomorrow, with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt). Joining Ford in the cast will be Mads Mikkelsen, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Toby Jones and Antonio Banderas.
