The result is extraordinary: already has sold more than 35 million records worldwide, and is listened to by over 13 million followers every month.

His most recent release is a special edition of Hecho en México, a deluxe version of his latest album, which also includes three new songs: I won’t turn on the light, you were leaving and the mariachi mix of Don’t kiss him.

First, Alejandro Fernández presented the single a few months ago lying love next to Natanaele Cano, treacherous butterfly a duet with Maná, e never hesitate to call me together with La Arolladora Banda El Limón, which accumulates 7 million streams on Spotify.

This album made him the first artist to reach #1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart in four different decades, from 1990 to 2020.

cross borders

-For a long time it was believed that regional music could not reach Argentina. What do you remember from the first visits, did you make more pop songs?

-Precisely yes, it was a country that cost me a lot of work but I broke that barrier when I had the opportunity to meet Emilio Estefan and it occurred to me to ask him if we could get together for a project that I had in mind. Kike Santander joined, another great songwriter and producer, and we ended up making the album I’m falling in lovewhich hit very hard in Argentina.

– That was the front door.

-Yup. I made that album with that concept: crossing borders with new and fresh music, where we were championing Mexican music and adding some more modern touches that were feeling at the time. I think we made a spectacular record and it’s one of the best sellers of my career. Next to Like who loses a starthey are my letters of introduction to Latin America, especially Argentina.

Then I started pursuing my pop career, and lately I’ve been totally focused on Mexican music and the audience follows me the same way. I mean, regardless, I stick with the same concept of music. In the show I’m trying to defend my culture, Mexican music, mariachis and that’s why in this show I’m 100% dressed as a charro and with my mariachis. Of course we will also put all the songs that have given me a lot of success in pop.

I really want to get to Argentina

-I wanted to ask you about this tour, which was suspended due to a pandemic but finally started and was a success.

-A year ago we started with concerts, literally everything started to open up, because we had to cancel the big tour which included USA, Central America, South America and Spain. First we did a few dates that were coming up the road, so I did a lot of work in Mexico and a mini-tour in California, plus a show I do every year in Vegas on September 15th.

I close the year with a great activity, thank God, and in 2023 we will come out with a new tour. Obviously we will be in Argentina, where I am happy to be back. We are promoting new album called Made in Mexico and hopefully people are left with a great taste in their mouths because we are preparing it and we are very eager to get to Argentina with this tour.

-For a generational issue you are closer to pop and rock than your father. In any case, was it difficult for you to make the decision to go to pop?

-There are people who defend the traditions of the cloak and sword, but Mexican music is known all over the world and is very popular. What isn’t there are singers of Mexican music who are known and can raise their hand all over the world. I tried to do something different and highlight my music, protect it and take care of it, but trying to take it to another level. That’s why meeting Emilio was: to make that combination.

You have to be very sure of what you want and have in mind, to be able to do it and project it. But there will always be purists who defend the traditions. When I made that transition, the biggest critic I ever had was my dad, and he finally got the point.

My father was someone you would never hear said was wrong, and he very rarely apologized to you. So he made me very proud, and it wasn’t long ago, to hear him say in an interview that I had intelligently made that transition to pop to get out of Mexico. He understood perfectly and applauded me. Now I am one of the pioneers who dared to make these changes within the music of Mexico. More to me, because I come from being the son of Vicente Fernández, the king of Mexican music. That’s why they trolled me and threw more.

-How is the rest of the year 2023 going? Isn’t it time to go back to the recording studio?

-What I can say is that in the next year we will have new music and against a record. We have already recorded a new single which will be released on January 5th. Is called Inexperienced in forgetting you., which is a great song that I think people will really like.

-I just did a duet that went very well, together with Luciano Pereyra. It’s a spectacular song. They are songs to set the stage for a visit, but we were just doing that when the pandemic hit. Obviously we will sing it in Argentina, and hopefully we can balance the dates with Luciano and have him sing at the Movistar Arena in March.
