Since the end of the 80s, when he surprised with the Tía Newton group, the guitarist and singer Carca became a point of reference of the so-called new Argentine rock. She has validated that impression with more than half a dozen solo albums, e since 2008 he has also been a member of the Babasónicos group.

Today, his new musical venture is a repertoire centered on the legendary group Pescado Rabiosowhich Luis Alberto Spinetta directed between 1971 and 1973, with classic albums such as Distorting us, Fish 2 Y Artaud,

The idea wasn’t exactly his, but rather an invitation from the CCK and Spinetta’s sons to redo those themes in the “Essential Records” cycle. The concert was a success and Carca Now he plans to repeat and expand the song list at the Teatro Coliseo, this Friday the 16th, together with the most emblematic pieces of his repertoire.

The origin of the concert

Very soon, in the heart of the Belgrano district, Carca opens the doors of his home, which is also a recording studio and rehearsal room.

“I don’t go to bed that late,” he says, “I always wake up at eight in the morning. For many years I have been more concerned with tomorrow than with today’s night. The next day I could do nothing. work and things to do, so that motivates you to behave, sleep and take advantage of the energy from the other day. And that’s great!”

-How was your business in the post-pandemic period?

– The beauty of all this post-pandemic is that we have tightened our fist and accelerator to wipe out all those things which, although they were a struggle and thought to have a North, were not entirely clear. The pandemic has given me that moment to stop and contemplate and see what I want to do and how. And it stuck with a new situation where I started working with new management with one leg in Mexico and the other here.

-What were your new plans?

– Specify the vision you want on the project and on yourself. Coming out of the pandemic, we did the Usina del Arte, where I had never played, and then the CCK with one of his shows. We have done everything and the initial kick of this new project could not have existed without the precedent of La Ballena, with the homage to fish 2.

The relationship with Spinetta

Have you thought about doing something like this before?

-I could not have generated it by myself, nor as I would like. I am very respectful and lover of all time Argentine rock, but I would never have generated such a proposition.

– Out of fear, out of respect or why?

-I was running away from Spinetta! He really liked my record a million year blues, and he wanted to get to know me more, but I escaped him to meet me; That’s something I couldn’t understand at the time. I’ve played the fool a thousand times and ran to the opposite side, but in the end I’ve crossed it five times and each encounter feels like a book to me, as intense and transcendent as it is.

In tasting samples, for Dante’s birthday or at his house, for different situations we met face to face, and I had to deal with that tsunami of sensations. He invited me to play with him on Friday and I didn’t go. Then Dante insisted and told him I couldn’t play in front of him!

-He intimidated you.

-Yup. I had a hard time dealing with Luis in a way where he didn’t feel like he was some kind of god to me. I realized that I didn’t have to mortify myself so much either. Eventually the relationship became more natural and we were able to talk, even though there was a trembling in my mind, heart and soul.

At first I thought he was a kindly generous person and that the nice things he said to me were things he could say to others. I realized later that I didn’t tell anyone and what’s more I followed my work, which is even more chilling.

Conquer fear

-You would never have encouraged yourself to do a show centered on Luis’ problems.

-There is no way! All of her discs are impossible to recreate, due to their unique shape. I confess that I went through several phases before the project. What was always clear to me is that it was a 90% path to frustration and shame. There was no chance of success, satisfaction or happiness. So I approached it like this: I will release the songs as is, without the end-to-end arrangements. The idea was to reinterpret the songs.

-How did you do?

-I bought myself a criolla guitar, which I didn’t have, and started making songs from scratch. I called a friend to check it out and we made a great team. That’s where I started to see that we could work with the song as if we just had the vocal track, as if it was a remix.

I didn’t opt for house or electro, but I had the desire to turn those songs into more danceable ones, because Spinetta’s music is meant to be celebrated and celebrated. I think that in wanting to match her only the melancholy of his absence is pronounced.

-On YouTube there is the entire CCk concert and there are very unexpected rhythmic changes, but they look good.

I called the percussionist and guitarist of Los Espíritus and, perhaps to bring it to the African side, which is the music I’ve been into for a long time and try to go into the darkness of my ancestors. There is a calypso/disco music version of love me peteribia Jamaican thing in hello sweet windand an electronic soul with like the wind I will see. This Credulity half Sumo/Ian Dury, which is a nice find.

-You were able to enjoy yourself instead of feeling the pressure.

-I’m playing. I’m the 9 year old with the cardboard guitar but now with the real guitar and the game is very serious. I’ve had moments where I didn’t enjoy myself and mortified myself, but luckily they didn’t last long because I’m not that. My inner child is not inside, it is gigantic and it is present. In life I act like that child.

-This Coliseum show is based on the CCK concept but without following a fixed order and with the freedom to choose the themes?

-Yup. And be able to choose songs from persecuting us Y Artaud and stay with the best, what best represents us. It is my first theater as a soloist. And what brought me there? Spinet. This is a ruse, so let’s also do “Carca clásicos” and all the music one loves will come together in one night. It will be an unbeatable show.
