Bardhe said Alejandro González IñárrituHe didn’t do it with his head, but with his heart. And the film has all or most of what its fans love and its fiercest detractors hate. In times of rift, the director’s film of bird Y the avenger -films for which he himself won his four Oscars, two for best director- is a new exponent of the controversy.
The plot develops between the unconscious and the conscious. That it is ambitious and in which Iñárritu’s staging in front of the camera is sometimes, often, more in the foreground than the story itself, which already has enough twists and steep paths to leave traces in our unconscious.
Y Bardo, false chronicle of few truths begins as a comedy, after a shocking image with a shadow flying over the desert (first allusion to bird). Lucy (Griselda Siciliani), the companion of the protagonist, gives birth to Mateo, but the child refuses to stay with us and wants to return to the womb. And well, they reintroduce him to his mother.
Many things will change in the course of two hours and thirty-nine minutes because the story will not be limited to the couple of Silverio and Lucía. It will focus on Silverio (Daniel Giménez Cacho, protagonist of zamakby Lucrecia Martel), a successful journalist and documentary filmmaker, who left Mexico for the United States, and returns to receive an award.
They also want to reward it in Los Angeles, just when Amazon (Netflix produces the film, which after having passed in some Argentine theaters, arrives in streaming this Friday, December 16) plans to buy Bajo California, in Mexico, to deliver it to the United States. ..
The film combines dream and reality, in a screenplay carefully elaborated between Iñárritu and our compatriot Nicolás Giacobone. Iñárritu had not returned to film in Mexico since loves dogs (2001). Shot in wide shots, it includes scenes where the imagination wins, with floors flooded or filled with sand, a huge pile of corpses in El Zócalo, Mexico, people crawling, another collapses and they are “disappeared”, and more still.
More? Hernán Cortés, the allusions to the absence of the state with respect to Mexican citizens, the question of our place, whether we live there or where we were born and raised.
The film is González Iñárritu’s look at his life, his existence, the Mexico he left twenty years ago to live in the United States. Going through a crisis or not, the protagonist reflects, remembers and fantasizes. Just like with Alfonso Cuarón he went back to Mexico Romein which he portrayed his family and his neighborhood, the director of Babel he embarks on a return journey, which will perhaps place him from now on on another cinematic journey.
Nothing will ever be the same
why later Bardnothing will ever be the same for him and his audience.
Bard It’s very different from anything he’s filmed so far.
Narcissist? He is on the same path as other directors who needed to talk about their past, even with Fellini Amarcord or closer in time Paolo Sorrentino with the great beauty.
Bard It’s like a dream, or a nightmare, a reverie in which reality and fiction blend elegantly, but which is perhaps too grandiose, or too much.
