In 2007, when 10 years had passed since the 1997 separation in River with “El Ultimo Concierto”, stereo soda decided to meet to do a big continental tour. It meant the return of one of Argentina’s most important rock bands and no one imagined it would be the last.
On 6 June 2007 the news arrives and on the 9th the official announcement: Soda is back on stage with a single limited-time tour, “a bubble in time”, as Gustavo Cerati called it.
The tour was christened “Me Verás Volver” and started on October 19, 2007 at the River Plate stadium.. Two more recitals were originally planned, followed by presentations in various countries of the American continent.
However, from the moment tickets went on sale, it became clear the original plan would have been completely overwhelmed and that it was faced with a gigantic cultural event that caused a stir among enthusiasts.
Finally, the recitals scheduled in River have been doubled and those scheduled elsewhere have been expanded, including new countries such as Chile (2 performances), Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, Mexico (4), United States (3), Peru (2 ). They toured a total of 13 cities and did 22 shows.
Soda is back with its everlasting hits and training and always: Gustavo Cerati on guitar and vocals, Charly Alberti on drums and Zeta Bosio on bass. And they were accompanied by Tweety González, Leandro Fresco (both on keyboards) and Leo García (on guitar and vocals).
the last of all
On December 21, 2007, Soda Stereo gave its last recital at the Monumental stadium and closed the tour which marked the return to the stage. Although there were many requests to resume touring the following year, the musicians decided not to play in 2008, but left open the possibility of getting back together a couple of years later. The accident and subsequent death of Cerati put an end to that possibility.
The tour produced mind-boggling numbers: six River Plates (one more than the Rolling Stones) and 1,062,000 spectators in total.
That sixth River wasn’t just another show on the tour, and the details and calls for special guests were planned top secret. participated Richard Coleman, Andrea Álvarez, Fabián Quintiero and Gillespi. It was also specially traced to New Jersey at Carlos Alomarso that it touched intensive love therapy Y in the dometwo songs that hadn’t been in the previous 21 shows.
The preview show wasn’t much different than the other River show, with noon sound checks and early audiences. And at 21:00 sharp, an old time video was shown again, the music of a Queen song was played and it started with games of seduction.
It was a historic and special evening. The three Sodas were in a great mood, and the presence of the guests gave an unexpected musical and emotional edge. In the end, the stadium was an explosion of euphoria and joy. Gustavo said they were “tremendously happy” and demanded that the entire tour team take the stage.
“They talked about money, they talked about many things – he said – but this tour was mostly about music. And the success has been rebuilding our internal relationship with Charly and Zeta”.
After midnight, at 00:15 on Saturday, Gustavo Cerati, Zeta and Charly Alberti embraced each other. Everything was about to end. Soda Stereo said goodbye. Unknowingly, forever.
