What are “shortlists”
The Hollywood Academy announced Wednesday through a statement the films shortlisted for 10 categories of the upcoming awards.
This stretch of road to the Oscars is called “shortlists”, i.e. a preliminary selection before the final, that of the ten entries that will be released on January 24, 2023: international films (for which our country’s Film Academy sent Argentina, 1985), documentary, hair and make-up, visual effects, original music, original song and sound, plus three short films (animation, documentary and action starring).
The preselection placed the Argentine film on Wednesday among the 15 films in the category, with productions from Poland, Germany, Mexico, Pakistan and Sweden, among other countries. From Mexico, for example, there was Bard: false chronicle of a half-truthby Alejandro González Iñarritu.
The vote
Ninety-two countries submitted films for consideration in the International Feature Films category for the 95th Academy Awards ceremony. And there will be, first, 15. Then yes, the five finalists who will be the candidates.
An “international feature film,” as defined by the Hollywood Academy, is a feature film (over 40 minutes) produced outside the United States with a predominantly (over 50%) dialogue track that is not in English.
Academy members from all branches (be they directors, performers, publishers, hairdressers) were invited to choose to participate in the preliminary round of voting. Sure: they have to meet a minimum viewing requirement to be able to vote in the category.
