The Latin Recording Academy contemplates holding the 24th Latin Grammy Awards, to be held in 2023, in a city outside the United StatesA spokesman for the organization has already told the EFE news agency.
“We have been in discussions with several cities, including cities outside the United States, about next year’s celebration,” said a spokesperson for the Latin Recording Academy (Grammy).
“We are very excited about the interest we have received from major international cities,” he added, without providing further details on the cities that would be possible candidates to host the awards ceremony in the next 2023 edition.
Do they go to Spain?
The spokesman declined to confirm the versions appeared this Friday in the Spanish press, according to which. Next year, these awards will be held in that country, following an agreement in preparation between the Radio Televisión Española (RTVE) corporation and the Latin Recording Academy. If so, the deal could be closed next January.
In that case, for the first time in the 24-year history of these awards, the traditional gala with international artists would leave the territory of the United States. In part it influences the growing worldwide presence of Latin American and Spanish artists in this possible change of venue for the celebration of what is considered one of the most time-honored music awards.
RTVE, again according to information that has appeared in Spain, would decide in which city the gala, which usually takes place in November, could be held. And moreover, it would take care of the production of the event together with the Hispanic network Televisa-Univision.
The awards, organized by the Latin Recording Academy and presented by music industry professionals, are an example of the current “diversity of Latin music and its great cultural influence around the world,” as the institution emphasized when it awarded to Meet this year’s nominees.
The great Latin music festival, which is traditionally held in Miami, changed cities this year but still within the United States, as it took place at the Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas (in the state of Nevada), on 17 November.
From both sides of the pond
At the 23rd Latin Grammys, held in Las Vegas, one of the big winners was Uruguayan musician Jorge Drexler, who brought the gramophone to best song and recording of the year.
Also among the winners was Spanish artist Rosalía who received the best album of the year award for motomami. And there have been several Argentines who have won prizes: Fito Páez (he got three statuettes), the group He killed a motorized policeman and the tango pianist Pablo Estigarribia.
Furthermore, in the 2022 edition, Bad Bunny, Sebastián Yatra, Julieta Venegas, Carlos Vives, Marc Anthony, Juan Luis Guerra, Christian Nodal, Los Tigres del Norte, Chick Corea, Chucho Valdés and the Mexican Marco Antonio Solís were awarded in several categories, he was declared Person of the Year.
