After two decades of working with the United Nations as an ambassador for the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), Angelina Jolie made the decision to leave the organization, but clarified that will continue to focus on the issue of human rights in the world.
The actress publicly communicated the decision through her official Instagram account, where she has over 14 million followersand says he feels “grateful for the privilege and opportunity” it has meant to work with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees all this time.
In the message, Angelina Jolie explained her reasons: “I believe in many things that the UN does, especially in the lives it saves through emergency aid. UNHCR is full of amazing people who make a difference in other people’s lives every day. Refugees are the beings I most admire in the world and I will be dedicated to working with them for the rest of my life.”
And he assures: “Now I will work with organizations led by the people most directly affected by the conflict, who give the maximum voice to those in need”.
Its beginnings of solidarity
Angelina Jolie began collaborating with UNHCR in 2001. And after ten years of collaboration, in 2012, she was appointed special envoy. From then on she was the actress and ex-girlfriend of Brad Pitt participated in more than 60 missions in various refugee camps around the world, where he learned face-to-face about the situation of thousands of affected people.

Concern for Afghanistan

Afghanistan is now the only country in the world that prohibits women’s education. All girls wish they were born boys to have the right to education”.
Concerned about this violation of rights, she continues: “While we stand with Afghan women in the face of this cruel and oppressive policy, we can do more to help Afghans rebuild their lives in the United States.”
And he points to a pending law to facilitate legal permanent residency for Afghan families evacuated to the United States when the Taliban took over and to help nearly 1,500 Afghan children who were separated from their parents or guardians because of the same situation.
