Diego Luna has had an exceptional year, mostly due to the success he has had in streaming Andorfrom Star Wars, from Lucasfilm. And lately there has been talk on the internet that Luna is being considered for the lead role in the upcoming film Fantastic Four Reed Richards, Marvel’s cheeky crew chief and scientist.
The names of the rest of the cast have not been revealed so far, but we do know that Matt Shakman (wandavision) takes over. Well, the film already has a release date, albeit a distant one: February 14 (Valentine’s Day), 2025. But on the podcast talk show The Sith Council by Kristian Harloff, the host asked Luna directly about her year, and potentially playing Reed Richards at the end of his lengthy interview centered around Andor.
The responses weren’t exactly negative in tone, and looking at Luna’s face, he might not be the best poker player. However, we also wouldn’t be surprised if the rumors that the Mexican actor has exploratory talks with Marvel are true. Perhaps, at best, his responses could be described as dodging dodging for now.
Early on, Luna hinted that perhaps the rumors take on a life of their own. “I just like the… I was talking about this this morning, about the rumours,” she explained. “When you become part of the rumors if half the rumors were true… It’s just amazing how much I see now.”
Luna then suggested that he was probably too busy with Andorwhich is now filming a second season, to join one Marvel film, in particular Fantastic Four.
“All I can tell you is that for the next two years I will be busy. In two years we will see if what I want to do is also film. Until 2024, I will (Andor)”.
When asked if she liked the character of Reed Richards, Luna just laughed and apparently indicated she would never talk about it again.
It always annoys us when movie sites suggest that actors are lying. The manufacturer and creator of AndorTony Gilroy said or hinted that the filming of Andor it will take place in the spring of 2023, probably in six to nine months. And yes, Luna is a producer. And you will definitely have to do reps, ADRs, etc. But it is likely that Fantastic Four it doesn’t get filmed until late 2023 or early 2024, and if all parties involved wanted it to work, they probably could.
That said, several actors are apparently in their sights for the role of Richards, the more responsible and serious team leader compared to the more irresponsible and headstrong Human Torch and The Thing, so a lot could happen in the coming months.
Andor it is expected in 2024, and perhaps not until at least the middle of the year.
