There is life after BTS: RM becomes the first member to reach the Top 10 with a solo album

Kim Nam Joon, the member of BTS known as RM under his nickname Rap Monster, he reached the Top 10 of the coveted Billboard 200 for the first time with his album Indigo.

The rapid rise within three weeks of its release was thanks to the CD editionas before it only existed in digital format and had reached position 15 in the charts.

Thus, powered by the CD and more deluxe versions, Indigo sold the equivalent of 83,000 units in the United States.

a varied album

Indigo includes collaborations from several heavyweight Korean and American artists, such as Erykah Badu and Anderson .Paak.

According to RM, “I thought it could be a well-balanced album and a unique work if I could harmonize all these artists, from one side of the industry to the other, from one continent to another and from one country to another.”

RM is the first of seven members of BTS to place a solo album in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200, since his partner J-Hope did not go from position 17 with jacks in the box, in the month of July. As a group, however, they had seven Top 10 albums, six of them at the top.

The next artists on the charts this week are SZA with SOS in first place for the second week in a row, with the second-highest stream by a female artist. The second is Taylor Swift with its success midnightwhich continued to grow in sales thanks to Christmas shopping.

There are also Christmas albums like Christmas by Michael Buble, The Christmas song by Nat King Cole, A Charlie Brown Christmas from the Vince Guaraldi Trio, e Happy Christmas by Mariah Carey.

“I’ve been making it for 4 years”

Kim Nam-joon, better known in the K-pop universe as RM by his nickname Rap Monster, has released his first solo album, called Indigoon Dec. 2, which she expected to be “very different” from her previous jobs, as reported through her management agency.

RM said on the day of the release, “Finally, my first album is coming thanks to all of you. I’ve been preparing for four years.” She wrote it on Hybe’s fan community platform, Weverse, which was quickly picked up by Yonhap news agency.

RM announced that the new album also included “interesting friends”, making him the third band member, after J-hope and Jin, to release a solo album.

RM’s solo career already included two compilations (mixtapes), MRI (2015) e Bow (2018). The latter peaked at number 26 on the Billboard 200 chart.

In addition to this project, RM will also present a popular culture and outreach television program to be broadcast on the South Korean cable network tvN.
