To celebrate the centenary of the cartoonist’s birth Stan Leethe official Marvel Entertainment Twitter account announced that the platform Disney+ will premiere a documentary dedicated to the legendary editor and producer in 2023.
“100 Years of Dreaming. 100 Years of Creation. 100 Years of Stan Lee,” reads the publication, which is accompanied by a video showing snippets from several Marvel films in which the creator of Spiderman it had cameos.
The superhero parent company’s tweet does not reveal any further information about the project’s storyline, director or producers, or exact release date. But It has already reached almost 14 million likes and already accumulates more than 1.4 million views.
The iconic American comic book writer passed away at the age of 95 on November 12, 2018 in Los Angeles.
Marvel has decided to communicate the news of his documentary on Wednesday 28, the day that marked the centenary of his birth.
The memory of “The Rock” and James Gunn
Lee’s 100th birthday spawned him several Hollywood stars have come out to remember him on their respective social networks. One of them was Dwayne “The Rock” Johnsonwho shared a photo with Lee on Twitter and dedicated some heartfelt words to him.
“Happy heavenly birthday to my old friend and mentor @TheRealStanLee. When I entered Hollywood many years ago, he always supported and encouraged me, which amazed me.
His kindness really touched me. Years later I have to say thank you,” the Black Adam actor tweeted.
Another who remembered him fondly was the director of Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn. Along with several photos from different years with the writer, the director wrote, “Happy 100th birthday to Stan Lee. We miss you man.”
Lee has had guest appearances in both Guardians of the Galaxy which Gunn directed. With the exception of many deliveries of X Men Y fantastic Four he has had cameo appearances in each of the Marvel films based on his characters. The last one was inside Avengers: Finale2019.
Marvel’s true superstar
As a key writer for Marvel, Lee imagined – together with cartoonists like Jack Kirby or Steve Ditko – a whole constellation of unforgettable comic book characters which, in addition to Spider-Man, included Hulk, Fantastic Four, Iron Man , The X-Men, Black Panther, Thor or Daredevil.
Lee began working in 1939 at Timely Comics, Marvel’s predecessor. Over the next several decades he went from interim editor to managing editor. In the 1960s, he became a writer and editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics..
Over time, he has become the visible and charismatic face of the company, as well as being an inspiration to comic book fans around the world.
“Stan Lee was as extraordinary as the characters he created,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said the day the writer died. A superhero in his own right to Marvel fans everywhere, Stan had the power to inspire, entertain and connect. The scale of his imagination was surpassed only by the size of his heart,” he praised.
Earlier this year, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Marvel has signed Stan Lee Universe to a 2-year deal. Under the deal, Marvel licensed Lee’s name and likeness for use in feature films, television projects, Disney theme parks, and more.
