a grumpy neighbor (A man named Otto), is the American adaptation of the 2015 Swedish blockbuster film, based on the novel of the same name written by Fredrik Backman, starring Rolf Lassgård (from the series Wallander). The new version stars Tom Hanks, who plays Otto, a surly widowed man who seems to have forgotten how to smile and be courteous to his neighbors.

At the beginning of the film, when we see him buying ropes and other hardware from Castor Constructor (sort of an Easy citizen), refusing help from a hardworking salesman, and protesting that he is being overcharged, we already know that he is a man Of principles and codes that belong to another era.

After discovering that your home is the exact sample of perfection and cleanliness exacerbated to the max, we realize that He doesn’t have a cell phone, which is unthinkable in the modern world. When we follow in his footsteps around the neighborhood checking that parking rules and the contents of recycling bins are being followed, we see that he is a control freak.

A man who doesn’t fit

Otto, does not fit into today’s world and hates all contact with the outside world. So much so that he also takes it out on his boss and colleagues at the construction company where he worked for trying to entertain him on the occasion of his retirement.

In imaginative and suggestive flashback we will see the youth of the protagonist, embodied by truman hanks (son of Tom and Rita Wilson), how he met his future wife, they got married and were happy until the tragic event which ended with the death of Sonya (Rachel Keller, from the series Fargo Y Vice of Tokyo).

But, since life has been known to take you and give you in similar proportions, one day she notices to her amazement that new neighbors are settling into the house across the street.

This is the family that makes up Marisol (Mariana Treviño, the Mexican star of the series crows club and the soap opera 100 days to fall in love) and her husband Tommy (Manuel García Rulfo, the Mexican actor of the series From dusk to dawn and the tape Death on the Orient Express) with their daughters Abbie and Luna.

The extreme vitality of Marisol and her family, the Latin jubilation, her affection for the solitary man and the gesture of cordiality when she brought him local food, among other causes, will slowly alter Otto’s daily ritualsthat he will begin to realize that his life is not over and he still has a lot to do, in communion with his peers.

Marc Forster’s address (same as The monster ball for which Halle Berry won an Oscar, find the island that is not there with Johnny Depp, Quantum of comfort with Daniel Craig and World War Z with Brad Pitt) makes the most of the resources of a cast in which Hanks, a true Hollywood star, and Treviño stand out, with his presence full of energy.

Sometimes, the story of the man who discovers through his peers how to fill the void that a loss produces, retains the scent of the films that the legendary Frank Capra I was rolling in my forties. Something that is appreciated in times where most of the premieres are plots with superheroes, monsters from other galaxies, haunted houses or demonic killers.
