Graciela Alfano has kept an absolute silence for several months about the serious health problems she went through last year: she was operated on for cancer. Yesterday, Monday, in the midst of the healing process, he spoke of his illness THEY (America, 8.00 pm), the cycle led by Ángel De Brito.
The actress had to undergo two major surgeries, on the kidney – there was only one left – and on the thyroid. Everything went well and now, in addition to following the medical indications regarding diet and the intake of anticoagulants and other remedies, periodic checks must be carried out.
In a telephone conversation with THEYGraciela began by thanking De Brito for keeping silent about his illness. “You knew all of this and you knew all of this and had discretion and common sense not to comment on anything.”
Total sincerity, Alfano admitted: “I went through a very serious period. I rowed like a beast. I couldn’t talk to anyone”. “At one point you wrote to me,” he told De Brito, “and I didn’t reply, I just sent you a heart. It was all I could do at that moment.”
the driver of THEY He then explained how he had learned about his illness and his operations. “A person who was hospitalized in the same place as you and with a similar situation told me. That person was surprised that you started talking to everyone as one more; that’s what he told me.”
Graciela Alfano: “When they told me it was a bomb in the head, a blow”
Graciela recalled the terrible shock she suffered after receiving the diagnosis: “When they told me it was a bomb in the head, a hammer blow,” she said. It’s one of those things that you think happens to other people. Will this study be ok? I was wondering…” Fear, however, didn’t paralyze her. Everyone acted as quickly as the case required. “In a week, they detected it and operated on me,” said Graciela.
The actress said that until then “all the studies have given me good” and stressed that “preventive medicine is important”. “And it’s important that it can be available to everyone,” she said.
“After seven hours of surgery, exit the operating room by typing– he assured. The first month was very difficult.. The body is recovering. But I spent it putting everything I had into it. I made a great effort“.
Graciela Alfano, to her children: “I want to die before you”
“We have to give new meaning to how we view sickness and death. We have to see what can be learned from this,” Graciela Alfano underlined in THEY.
“What has generated all this in your relationship with your children and with others?” De Brito asked. “It helped me practice and make decisions. I put my head to see what to do with the tools that were“.
“My children were pale, sick, sleepless, exhausted, worried… I know those faces even if they wanted to hide them. It was understandable: their mother was going through a horrible situation,” Graciela continued.
According to what he said, in those circumstances he thought: “I am going through a situation cancer, but they have their mother who is going through a cancer situation. That’s why I tried to show myself strong and also with the black humor that characterizes me”.
“At a time when my children were together – he exemplified -, I told them: ‘Be careful, at some point it will happen, now it’s like a test, because I will die at some point. No parent wants to outlive their children. I want to die before you“.
2QWith total determination, Alfano affirmed: “The disease has arrived and we cannot avoid it, but we can live it with strength, with humour, deepening relationships. We can decide how we want to live. My children have told me how much they love me so what I’ve never been told before.”
“But it is clear that one day will pass: we will all leave. With this, I have lost the fear of dying. I naturalized it as something that is about to happen. I came out of it in a state of balance, where I was fine with life.”
De Brito wanted to know what Graciela Alfano’s greatest concern was when she learned of the diagnosis and that she had to undergo two operations. The answer was dry: “Get out alive”.
How is your life after the surgeries?
Graciela Alfano explained: “Both in the case of the kidney and the thyroid the disease is surgical: they remove the tumors and then you just have to do the checks”.
But recovery is not easy. “The first few months I had an absolute regimen, I took anticoagulants, medications, I had checkups, I had very little energy…”, she explained.
Now everything begins, little by little, to be more bearable for her. And he told an anecdote: “The doctor, who has the same mood as me, invited me to eat at his house with some friends. He put drinks in front of me and I didn’t drink alcohol. He looked at me and said: ‘ Not even stupidity’ and I tried a few sips.”
Faced with life after such a scare, Graciela shared how she deals with it: ‘I set alarms for the checks I have to do. But I get up in the morning with all the vibes. message to those who are going through the same situation as me: do not victimize yourself. Life belongs to those who carry on. If there is an illness, you have to go through it, you have to overcome it”.
“Human beings are very strong. You have to trust in the strength that is in you,” she said, thanking the family and all the friends who accompanied her during her illness.
After recalling that before this situation he only entered operating rooms for cosmetic surgery, he asked that they accept a joke of black humor and condemned: “Now I have a divine body, but with only one kidney”.
