This special gathering, which is also attended by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, takes place a few days after the Spanish TV programme saved give a voice to more women who have denounced Domingo – there were about thirty of them in various countries – and insert the testimony of a Spanish opera singer who did not want to reveal her identity.

When asked about these allegations, Japanese fans prefer not to comment on the matter and point out that “they came to enjoy the voice of Plácido Domingo”, Takako, a 51-year-old woman who lives in Yokohama (south of Tokyo).

“I came because I was young when the Three Tenors were performing. I would have liked to go to the concert of the three, but it is no longer possible and even if one person is missing among them, we have come to see them.” says Junko, also from Yokohama and 58 years old.

Another 70-year-old woman who lives in Tokyo adds that she “has no interest” in the allegations surrounding the singer, given that she has been coming to Carreras concerts for years. “I only lost one,” she explains.

Two investigations launched in the United States – by the Los Angeles Opera and the American Guild of Music Artists (AGMA) – concluded that the allegations of harassment by several opera singers against the tenor were “credible” and in the case of the last report, the tenor had sought to “soften” the result in a $500,000 settlement.

Since then, Domingo has not performed in the United States again, although he has continued to perform regularly in Europe and other countries.

Spain’s culture minister, Miquel Iceta, acknowledged last week that his ministry had vetoed Domingo’s performances on Spain’s public stages, despite the singer having continued to perform on nearly a dozen occasions since 2020.

In addition to his performance in Tokyo, for which tickets ranged between 200 and 1,000 euros, the singer has scheduled performances in the coming months on stages in Mexico, Italy, Hungary, France and Monaco.

A Spanish opera singer, who has chosen to remain anonymous, accused tenor Plácido Domingo on the aforementioned TV show of harassing her when they shared the stage in the 2000s, which is the first instance of a Spanish woman joining complaints in other countries .

The Spaniard, who appeared from behind and with a distorted voice, participated in a program broadcast on Sunday 15 January and dedicated to the Plácido Domingo case, accused in an investigation published in 2019 by the Associated Press agency by various professionals of the opera of sexual harassment in the United States for decades.

“He’s untouchable, he shouldn’t, but he is, that’s why I’m in the dark”, explains the Spanish artist during the TV show saved by La Sexta, who claims to have corroborated this active singer’s testimony with two other sources.
