Ozzy Osbourne: ‘I never imagined my touring days would end like this’

Ozzy Osbourne, a heavy metal hero since his early days in Black Sabbath, has announced his retirement from touring. The reason: Health problems. The immediate consequence: the cancellation of his European tour which was to start in May.

The announcement is buried in the fourth paragraph of the statement released by the singer’s management office, but its intent seems clear: “I never imagined my touring days would end up like this,” he wrote of his illness, a spinal injury.

Osbourne recently performed during halftime of a Los Angeles Rams game in his adopted hometown last September. His last tour was in 2018.

In the statement, Osbourne continued: “This is probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to share with my loyal fans. As everyone knows, It has been four years since the serious accident I had in which I damaged my spine.

“My only goal during this time was to get back on stage. My singing voice is fine. However, after three operations, stem cell treatments, endless physiotherapy sessions and most recently the innovative Cybernics treatment (HAL), my body is still physically weak.

“I am honestly humbled by the way you have patiently held onto your tickets all this time, but in all conscience, I have now realized that I am physically unable to do my next UK/Europe tour. Because I know for sure that I would not be able to cope with the requested trip.

“believe me when i say the thought of letting my fans down really FUCKS me (in capital letters in the original).

“I never imagined my touring days would end like this. My team is currently brainstorming where I will be able to perform without having to travel from city to city and country to country.

“I want to thank my family… my band… my team… my lifelong friends Judas Priest and of course my fans for their endless dedicationloyalty and support, and for giving me the life I once dreamed of having.

“I love you all…”, he closes. Ticket refunds are available at the point of purchase.

Osbourne is nominated for four Grammy Awards at the ceremony to be held in Los Angeles this Sunday, January 5th.
