It may happen that, despite the great sports offer, some people prefer to enjoy themselves as spectators. And for them there are also multiple events 12 months a year and for all tastes. Is that the complete infrastructure of the city also makes it home to major national and international sporting events.

Water sports

If the idea is to start with the experience of having been in contact with the sea, the unmissable thing is to practice a water sport.

A good place to start practicing these sports is the traditional Club Náutico, located in the port of the city. There you can take courses in windsurfing, yachting, rowing and stand up paddling without having to become a member.

The calm waters of Laguna de los Padres also invite you to row, canoe and windsurf or sail in kayaks, canoes, boats and sailboats surrounded by a charming environment.

You can rent everything you need for your practice right there. Where? In the Islas Malvinas Recreational Complex (CRIM), which can be accessed from the Cacique Cangapol road, which connects the Laguna with the Sierra de los Padres.

Surfing and SUP

When it comes to sport, the absolute protagonist always appears: surfing. And boasting its title of National Capital, Mar del Plata has numerous beaches with different characteristics for beginners who want to be encouraged to learn or more advanced ones who want to perfect their technique.

Among the waves most chosen by surfers are those of Playa Grande and Varese, both with schools that allow you to start this sport and rent boards, wetsuits and everything you need to enjoy this exciting experience.

In addition to surfing, you can learn stand up paddle (SUP), a method that consists of sliding on boards larger than conventional ones, propelled by an oar.

The best? The schools are open all year round, because when it comes to fueling a passion for surfing, there’s no stopping time.

Golf

Mar del Plata is one of the most popular destinations for professional and amateur golfers and it is mainly due to the large variety of courses it offers.

In the city there are four clubs and five courses of international level, approved by the Argentina Golf Association. All of them are available throughout the year for handicapped and non-handicapped players to practice.

Those who make golf a part of their holidays have the opportunity to play every day in places with different characteristics: facing the sea, in a jagged mountain landscape or in the heart of an ancient grove.

One of the oldest golf courses on the continent is the Mar del Plata Golf Club, called the cathedral of golf. The so-called old court is located in Playa Grande and is an authentic Scottish-type ring, short and wavy; while the new courthouse is 5 kilometers away from the other and is similar to a park. Both have 18 holes.

The Mar del Plata Golf Los Acantilados Club is located in the neighborhood that gives the club its name, about 5.5 kilometers from the Punta Mogotes lighthouse. It has 27 holes and is park-like, with wide fairways and excellent forestry.

Also to the south, 15 kilometers from the lighthouse, is the Marayuí Country Club, an American-style 9-hole course with double greens. A picturesque stream with a good water flow crosses the courtyard.

Finally, the 18-hole Sierra de los Padres Golf Club is located on a 40-hectare course. The course poses a challenge to the player as, having been built at the foot of the mountains, its fairways are narrow and will almost always be on an inclined plane.

Fishing

Another of the main sporting activities that can be practiced throughout the year is fishing. It can be from the coast or embarked, within the city or in the Laguna de los Padres, and at any time of day.

Those who choose to fish from the coast can choose to locate themselves on the beach, on the rocks, on the breakwaters that go into the sea or on the docks; the center or others a little more distant.

The city also allows fishing from a boat or deep sea, fly fishing and fishing with lures, in lagoons, streams and canals.

There are several providers offering deep sea and midwater sport fishing excursions that include tackle and lunch on board, to ensure a complete experience.

Laguna de los Padres is another very popular spot for fishermen who want to get away from the maritime postcard for a while.

paragliding

The more adventurous will be attracted by another unmissable experience: flying over the coast or the mountains at a height of 200 meters in a tandem paraglider without having to have experience.

From either place, the postcard you see is incredible and ensures unforgettable memories.

Those who offer this service give the possibility to record the entire adventure in HD video so that anyone who sees it has the feeling of coming to Mar del Plata to have the same experience.

go skateboarding

A sport that is gaining more and more fans is skateboarding and Mar del Plata is one of the perfect destinations to enjoy the many spots it has.

Both the skate parks and the sidewalks and slopes of the coast are the favorite places for local skaters and tourists.

By design, location and construction, the Rambla Bristol skatepark is considered one of the most important and complete in the country.

There are also those located in the Plaza Miter, the one in the Teodoro Bronzini Municipal Sports Park and the one in the city of Batán; all chosen by locals and tourists who enjoy this practice at any time of the day and add a different attraction to the landscape.

soccer

Those looking for new sports also have a place in Mar del Plata: the first and only footgolf course in the world. It is located in the Colinas Verdes area and has 200 hectares of nature and incredible views.

What is Foot Golf? It is a sport that combines football and golf and consists of hitting a soccer ball to insert it into the holes with as few strokes as possible.

Sports activities by the sea or in the mountains

The sea breeze, the mountain air and the incomparable landscapes of Mar del Plata invite you to do outdoor sports and this makes many of its corners become excellent outdoor gyms.

The 47 kilometers of coastline are perfect for exercising with instagrammable scenery in the background and combine sport, why not, with a photo shoot in the city and the occasional selfie.

At any time of the day and at any time of the year, one of the usual postcards of the coast is that of hundreds of people who choose it for bike tours, long walks overlooking the sea, running or rollerblading.

You can also change the sea for the mountains for a while and start the idea of trekking or hiking to explore the forests that border the Laguna de los Padres or climb trails in the mountainous area, enjoying the view from the top of the sown fields .

Inside the Laguna de los Padres you can also rent horses and have the experience of riding in a dream landscape.
