There is something that obviously attracts Jennifer Lopez: weddings. It would be nice if she took him to the psychologist’s bed before going to the cinema, because maybe it all started when her marriage to Ben Affleck (way back in 2004) didn’t make it to the altar, although last year it did. AND conduct weddingspremiered on Amazon Prime Video, it is his fourth film in which the word wedding is linked to the title.
Also, J Lo may be paying attention to some signs so as not to be wrong again. And we’re not talking about couples, but about scripts. And more when ryan reynolds, who would become Tom, the one who will marry Darcy, his character, was the first to leave the project -he was captured as executive producer-, giving way to Armie Hammer. Yes, the actor accused of cannibalism and sexual harassment, in any order you prefer.
Without one or the other, Josh Duhamel (the series The thing about Pam, with Renée Zellweger; He was married to Fergie, of the Black Eyed Peas, maybe it sounds like that).
Duhamel, who isn’t Duracell, even though he looks similar, runs out of energy or batteries quickly in this comedy where if there’s something that isn’t there, it’s the chemistry between the pair.
Darcy and Tom have decided to get married at a resort in the Philippines. She didn’t want her billionaire father (Cheech Marin) to bear the cost. And they are there, at the rehearsals, when one becomes aware of the tensions between the family members: Darcy’s mother (Sonia Braga, unrecognizable, but not only for the years spent as Doña Flor and her two husbands -1976-) does not put his ex’s young couple on the bench.
Across the hall, Tom’s parents are insufferable too, especially his mother (Jennifer Coolidge, who’s winning comedy series The White Lotus). Moreover, Darcy’s father has invited her daughter’s ex-boyfriend (Lenny Kravitz, more confused than on a bowling green).
Why didn’t he say “No, I don’t want to”
But everything will get worse when some pirates who were around come to the place and take all the guests hostage. Not to the couple, because they really, but rightly, had distanced themselves from them and from each other: they argued, yes, shortly after saying Yes, I want.
It’s the twists of fate, because Jennifer Lopez should learn to say No I do not want to when offered roles in movies like this.
But well, she’s listed as one of the producers, so some of the blame for this mess falls on her.
Too violent to be a comedy (watch bad guys die, one by one or in pairs), as Jason Moore came to direct on Broadway Avenue Q – for which he was himself a Tony nominee – doing this is one of many unanswered questions. He also has to his credit (or must) sisterswith Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, e Perfect pacewith Anna Kendrick, which by the way adds absolutely nothing.
Screenwriter Mark Hammer, in addition to having little wit, is not exactly prolific: this is his second screenplay in nine years. We don’t know if it took him that long to write this, which would be terrible, or even more terrible, no one has called him that long, for some reason. A reason that, after seeing conduct weddingsyou would understand.
