the young singer Samara Joy is officially the “best new artist” of the year 2022 according to the recent Grammy Awards. He’s only 23 years old and a voice won over Academy voters, beating out such notable competitors as Brazilian Anitta and Italian rock band Måneskin.
“Being here to be who I really am is so exciting!” She said after receiving the statuette from Olivia Rodrigo, the previous winner of said award, where characters like Meghan Thee Stallion or Dua Lipa won years ago.
This accolade shows that Samara Joy is slowly starting to make a name for herself in the recording industry. Her second album, Wait a little’released in September 2022, it has already achieved considerable success, as well as the award for best jazz vocal album. Two Grammy trophies in total for this new promise, recognized for having brought jazz to the new generations.
a great voice
Samara grew up in the Bronx neighborhood of New York and has been in contact with music since she was a child, as she comes from a musical family. Her grandparents started a popular Philadelphia gospel group, The Savettes, and her father played bass on tours for Andraé Crouch, known as “the father of modern gospel music.”
When he started high school he joined the jazz band at his high school, Fordham High School for the Arts, and after graduating he began studying at the State University of New York at Purchase, where he majored in singing.
Era during his student days when he released his debut albumproject baptized with his same name and surname, in which he inserted his first hit, Stardustwhich allowed him to star in the American program TODAY’S SHOW and launched her to fame.
For her second album she chose a version of as the first single Impossible to get out of this state of mindwritten by Frank Loesser and Jimmy McHugh and previously starring such greats as Sarah Vaughan and Nina Simone.

In just a few years of her professional career, Samara has not stopped growing as an artist and shares her work and talent on social media, especially on Tick tock where, before amassing more than 200,000 followers, to whom she declared that the Grammy gala became “the best night of her life” for her.
