The videogame Hogwarts Legacyset in the magical world of JK Rowling over a hundred years ago, soon to be released worldwide. And it intends to make noise, not just because of the graphics and gameplay, but also because will include the franchise’s first transgender character.

The new RPG based on the universe of Harry Potter features Sirona Ryan, the landlady of the Three Broomsticks pub, located in the village of Hogsmeade, who in the game informs players that it took her classmates a while to realize that she “was actually a witch, not a wizard”.

The obvious appearance of a trans character in the wizarding world – the game takes place in the 19th century – is significant, since Rowling has generated a lot of controversy in recent years for making comments that many have perceived as transphobic.
