Bad Bunny will receive an honorary award for his LGBTQ activism

HAPPYthe main organization that supports the rights of the LGBTQ community in the United States, announced this Wednesday that it will reward Bad bunny for his activism in defense of equality. The contribution of the singer-songwriter will also be recognized at the gala to be held on March 30 in Los Angeles Christina Aguilera and actor Jeremy Pope.

Bad Bunny will receive its annual “Vanguard” award, given to “allies who have made a significant difference in advancing acceptance of LGBTQ people and issues,” the organization explained. Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears and Cher are some of the stars who have received this recognition in previous years.

Sarah Kate Ellis, president and CEO of GLAAD, said that the acceptance and tolerance of the Puerto Rican urban artist “redefines the positive influence Latin music artists can have within the LGBTQ community and has led by example to all artists”.

“Bad Bunny uses his role as one of the world’s most popular music artists to shine a light on LGBTQ people and issues, including transgender equality and ending violence against transgender women of color,” said Sarah Kate Ellis in a statement.

Last Sunday Bad Bunny won the Grammy for Best Urban Music Album at the most important music awards in Los Angeles. In addition to winning the statuette, It was he who put the Latin share in the live shows of the ceremony.

Awards to Aguilera and Pope

Ellis also highlighted the contribution of Aguilera, who will receive the “Advocate for Change” award, received only by two other personalities – Madonna and Bill Clinton.

Ellis said that thanks to his hit song Beautifuldedicated to the queer community, coupled with her fundraising work for HIV research and her strong opposition to anti-queer policies in the United States, Aguilera “strongly and proudly raised the bar for what it means in these times be an ally of LGBTQ people”.
