When he was 12, long before he became Spider-Man, Tom Holland he came to prominence in England for his acclaimed role in the musical Billy Elliott: The Musicalwork for which he has been preparing for two years.

Fifteen years after that catapult role in London’s West End, it seems Holland will have to dust off her ballet shoes to star Fred astaire in the biopic that already has a director to bring the story to the screen: Paul King.

Though the studio is keeping the plot under wraps, the film is said to focus on Astaire’s history with his sister, Adele.

The duo were inseparable for over twenty years, rising from a simple vaudeville act at the turn of the century to Broadway and London’s West End in the 1920s. Adele was initially the face of the duo, but Fred’s consummate stage skills they ended up eclipsing his.

The Astaires separated in 1932 when she married, a blow to Fred. But it ultimately led Fred to focus on Hollywood musicals and, in time, would lead to cinematic immortality.

People have been talking about the Astaire biopic for a long time, which Lee Hall is the screenwriter for billy elliott– rewrite Noah Pink’s screenplay. It would be a reunion for Hall and Holland, who worked together on the stage adaptation of the drama from 2008 to 2010.

King co-wrote the screenplay and is executive producing the third film in the series, which is in development and will be directed by Dougal Wilson.

As already mentioned, everyone probably knows Tom Holland from his role as Peter Parker and Spider-Man of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

But in recent years, the 26-year-old London actor has been encouraged to take on more dramatic or nuanced roles in films like Cherry AND The devil at all hours. That, added to the antecedent billy elliottpositioned him as the ideal candidate to play Astaire.
