Divine Italy is a fruitful collaboration between the Teatro Colón, the Italian Embassy in Buenos Aires, whose ambassador is Fabrizio Lucentini, and the Italian Cultural Institute of Buenos Aires, whose director is Donatella Cannova.
Also participating is the Teatro Colosseo, owned by the Italian state, whose general and artistic director is Elisabetta Riva, since the hall will be one of the venues where the vast program will be screened.
During this year, Divina Italia will bring the great legacy of Italian musical art on tour by famous composers such as Donizetti, Verdi, Rossini and Puccini, together with the new classics, the most current compositional trends and some of the great directors and choreographers of the present.
The cycle will start on Tuesday 7, Wednesday 8, Thursday 9, Friday 10 and Saturday 11 March at 20:30 and Sunday 12 March at 19:00. Resurrectionwithin the scope of the art commemoration for the 40th anniversary of the resumption of democracy in Argentinato be held at the La Rural property.
It will be interpreted Symphony no. 2 by Gustav Mahler, Resurrection, with the musical direction of the great master Charles Dutoit at the helm of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Buenos Aires. The staging, scenography, costumes and lights will be by the theater director Romeo Castellucci.
opera season
The opera season will begin on Tuesday 14 March with Splendorby Charles Gounod one of the most famous melodies of the lyrical repertoire in the format of the French grand opera.
Stefano Poda will be the director of this production premiered at the Teatro Regio di Torino in 2015, a production of the Teatro Regio di Torino, the Israel Opera and the Lausanne Opera (Switzerland).
The musical direction will be curated by maestro Jan Latham-Koenig. After the first, there will be five more services on March 15, 16, 18, 19 and 21.
Then, from 5 September, with functions also on 6, 7, 9, 10 and 12 September, will be represented The Turk in Italy, by Gioachino Rossini, a new production by the Teatro Colón with the musical direction of Jordi Bernacer and the direction of Pablo Maritano.
The happy widow It will take place on 26, 27, 28 and 30 September and 1 and 3 October. Franz Lehár’s three-act operetta will be directed by Jan Latham-Koenig and staged by the great director Damiano Michieletto. It premiered at the Fenice in Venice in 2018, and is a production of the Teatro La Fenice in Venice and the Rome Opera, taking the action to the 1950s and a small state-owned bank. Its themes are the same as always: money and love.
Lady Butterfly, the opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini to a libretto by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica will have the alternating musical direction of Jan Latham-Koenig and Carlos Vieu and the direction of Livia Sabag. The 9 scheduled functions will be in November on 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16 and 17.

On 26, 27, 28 and 30 May the Teatro Coliseo will welcome the Chamber Opera with long live mom by Gaetano Donizetti. Then it will be presented The bell, also at Donizetti’s, on 29 and 30 June, and 1 and 2 July. Finally, Humanity and Lucifer by Alessandro Scarlatti will be on 23, 24, 25, 26 November.
