It was a cold night, in a polar wave that surprised in the middle of summer in Argentina. Nail 10 thousand people held the open-air harvest queen coronation in Mendoza city to see the return of the Enanitos Verdes group.

The band, born in the wine province 42 years ago, did not disappoint. The melancholy for the physical absence of its singer Martian Canterowho died on Sept. 7 of last year, glossed over the entire show Friday night at Mendoza Civic Park.

The impressive guitarist and co-founder of Los Enanitos Philip Staiti (guitar brand Fender designed a complimentary version, the Staticaster) put the sash over his shoulder. “I am also Enanitos Verdes. Unfortunately, Marciano is not here and the river continues. We have always been a band and will continue to be,” he told Clarín before the show.

an exciting recital

At first Staiti was enthusiastic. His voice was low and shaky as the extended band seemed to drag him into a rugby scrum to put the ball back in play. He went from minor to major and nobody wanted to leave the property until the end.

At their first show in Argentina, a thousand kilometers from the capital, the Enanitos Verdes have released their new format. From a trio (guitar, bass and drums) they moved on to new sounds and voices: Staiti (guitar and vocals), Jota Morelli (drums), Guillermo Vadalá (bass), Bosco (keyboards) and in the backing vocals, Arita Rodríguez and Damián Castroviejo .

It was a succession of hit songs that marked a generation of democratic spring, with new arrangements and powerful guitar solos by Staiti. The audience warmed up. He sang and jumped, in an audience of 50-year-olds mixed with 20-year-olds.

the memory of Horace “Marciano” Cantero, the former leader of Enanitos Verdes, was always present. A video, a photo and the surprise of his son Javier, invited to sing on stage.

The young musician grew up in Buenos Aires but has now decided to stay in Mendoza. Javier has a vocal range very similar to that of his father and an enormous desire to devote himself to music.

“I’ve known him since he did the ultrasound. Son `e tigre. Blood of your blood”, said Stiati when he invited Marciano’s only son to go on stage to sing the green wall.

Shots and highlights

Other highlights, such as the guest vocals of Exequiel Stocco, of the local group Pasado Verde, in the interpretation of Eternal solitudeand when guitarist Juan Pablo Staiti (son of Felipe who has played with the band for the last 5 years) accompanied them on the hit of Bolivian lament. They made a massive version of the most listened to Latin American rock song on Spotify.

“I want to thank you for all these years, for the years to come and as they always say, the only true death is oblivion. Thank you Mendoza!” said an emotional Felipe Staiti.

The songs also resounded in the Civic Park White guitars, this morning, every night, French lemon for the rest AND Your prison. They were also not lacking My first day without youthe same song as Mendoza Mountain rangeand the classics distant loves AND Daylight.

Almost at the end came the premiere in Argentina of the song Staiti composed for Marciano Cantero after his death, my number 1 fan.

Staiti explained why he composed this song: “I wanted to express the feeling I had … that I couldn’t say it, I didn’t know where I was. A song, with all love, with all respect, for the memory of Marciano and a fragment of what our life has been”.

The colored lights came on again. smoke on stage and fireworks shot into the sky to make the whole audience dance to the version of The stranger with long hair. The iconic song, which blended beat and rock, was one of many anthems that brought Enanitos Verdes to transcend in Latin America. Songs that will continue to play.
