Once again a novel by the award-winning writer Claudia Piñeiro arrives at the cinema. This time it is Elena knows, whose film version will star Mercedes Morán and Érica Rivas, leading the cast. The film, directed by Anahí Berneri, is expected to premiere later this year on Netflix.
Elena knows tells the story of a mother trying to clear up the death of her daughter, as he struggled with the physical challenges imposed on him by a rapidly progressing illness. Curiously, both Morán and Rivas will share the cast with their respective daughters: Mercedes Scápola and Miranda de la Serna.
Morán plays Elena, who is looking for the person responsible for the sudden death of her daughter, Rita (Rivas’ character) and unable to get answers to help her understand what happened, she is the one who embodies the investigation. Scápola plays Isabel and De la Serna’s character, Rita, as a young woman.
Despite the progress of Parkinson’s disease, Elena embarks on a train journey from the suburbs to the capital, seeking help from an old friend of her daughter. In the midst of this attempt to find some clue to reveal the truth, the inevitable memories of her mother will appear, confronting her with an unexpected revelation.
The cast is completed by Marcos Montes, Marcos Ferrante, Horacio Camandulle, Rocío Belzuz, Agustina Muñoz, Mónica Gonzaga, Susana Pampin and Laura Faienza.

Filming, which began at the end of January and will last until March, is taking place in the city of Buenos Aires, in Mar del Plata and in various locations in the province of Buenos Aires, such as Hurlingham and Lanús, among others.
Director Anahí Berneri is the one who also wrote the screenplay together with Gabriela Larralde, and the film is produced by Vanessa Ragone, of Haddock Films.
This is Piñeiro’s third novel to serve as the basis for a film. It had already happened with Thursday Widowsa co-production between Argentina and Spain released in 2009, directed by Marcelo Piñeyro, and starring Gloria Carrá, Ana Celentano, Gabriela Toscano, Juana Viale, Ernesto Alterio, Juan Diego Botto, Pablo Echarri and Leonardo Sbaraglia.
Years later, in 2014, he hit the big screen. betibudetective film directed by Miguel Cohan, based on the novel of the same name by Piñeiro in which Mercedes Morán also starred, in this case together with Daniel Fanego, Alberto Ammann and the Spanish José Coronado.
On the other hand, Piñeiro and Morán are also part of another Netflix project: the second and final season of The kingdom, which will arrive on the platform starting next March 22nd. In this second season of six episodes, Diego Velázquez, Julieta Cardinali, Mariana Di Girolamo, Maite Lanata, Agustín Aristarán, Juan Ingaramo and Florencia Raggi are added.
