U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber ordered Kelly to serve another year in prison following her New York City conviction.

The main question, ahead of Kelly’s sentencing in his native Chicago, was whether Leinenweber would order the 56-year-old musician to serve his sentence at the same time as or after completing his term in New York, where he was convicted of racketeering and human trafficking. . 2021. The latter would have been equal to life imprisonment.

Prosecutors had asked for a long enough sentence to keep Kelly from walking out of jail alive, arguing his crimes against minors and his lack of remorse.

With Thursday’s sentence, Kelly will not serve more than 31 years in prison. Which means he can be released when he’s 80, giving him some hope of getting out of prison alive one day.
