Five years after announcing the start of her solo career, the Cuban-American singer-songwriter Lauren Jauregui finally managed -through the pandemic- to start strong, releasing singles, his first album and a world tour that will come this Wednesday March 1st at the Broadway Theatre.
Jauregui was one fifth of Fifth Harmonywhich enjoyed huge pop success from 2012 to 2018, with accolades, stadium shows and classic hits, such as work from home AND it’s worth it, where his voice shone Camila CabelloAlly Brooke, Normani and Dina Jane.
Daughter of Cubans and raised in Miami, Lauren collaborated with C Tangana, Tainy, Halsey, Ty Dolla, Marian Hill and the Colombian group ChocQuibTown. Also, she was voted by the public as Celebrity of the Year at the British LGBT Awards in recognition of promoting equality for the LGBTQ community (he is openly bisexual).
His debut album was Prelude, since 2021, where he has shown all his spirit, sensuality, style and soul. Then came her “An evening with Lauren Jauregui” tour, which would have arrived in Buenos Aires in October last year, but will only take place now.
“Hello angels,” he said then, “I am very sorry to announce that I have to postpone my presentation in South America. I really have to make sure that I present the most perfect and high quality show that I have ever dreamed of. Having said that, due to production logistics out of my control, I’ve decided to push the dates back to March 2023. I can’t wait to see all your faces then.”
“I’ve grown a lot”
“I am very excited!” She says in perfect Spanish on Zoom. “I’m very happy to go there and to be able to be with people, with music that I can share with them. I love being on stage and being sang the same thing that I’m singing. I think it’s the best of everything I do. “
-What do you remember about your visit to Argentina with Fifth Harmony?
-I loved the food, the atmosphere and the whole city of Buenos Aires, which is very, very beautiful. I think we were there for a very short time, played and off we went! Obviously it costs a lot of money to tour and it’s hard to get days off, but hopefully it can grow to the level of having more room to learn more. Right now I’m an independent artist and just growing as a solo artist so it’s hard to have that spare time.
-How are you doing with your solo and independent career; is that what you imagined?
-There are different aspects and some are more difficult, but I have grown a lot as a woman and as a businesswoman. I’ve learned a lot because there’s no one to organize everything for me, but I feel very free and aligned with who I want to be as an artist. This is the most important thing, how to express myself authentically.
-How do you manage your free time? Because sometimes doing what you love ends up invading 24/7.
I think I have balance in life. Working is what I enjoy and creating music is always a blessing.
the latest single
In October of last year, Lauren launched always love, a ballad that was well received. “It’s a song I wrote in 2019 -he says- and it’s about the moment when love ends but you still have feelings for the person you were with, even though you know they can’t be together anymore. It’s that tender moment of saying I love you, you loved me and I will always love you. In the video I’m alone in a house and the ghost of my ex is with me.”
-How did you plan your second album?
-I will be releasing more songs this year, not necessarily an album but maybe another EP. I’m working on it and I hope everyone will hear it very soon.
-Do you sing some songs of your previous band live?
-All solo material, from my current career.
-What was it like to have such a powerful musical experience when you were very young? Did your family background help you to assimilate the shock of a huge success?
-It was difficult, but I have a very nice relative who supported me strongly when I was very young and in my formative years. I was in that group from 16 to 21 years old. It’s been an awesome experience, I’ve grown a lot and I feel that’s why I am the woman I am. I have a lot of trust in God, who has guided me a lot and helped me to go forward in the moments when I didn’t see the light and didn’t see where I was going. He also helped me believe in myself and know who I wanted to be as an artist.
-Last year all Fifth Harmony remembered an anniversary date. Apparently none of that group reneges and they have fond memories, although each went their own different paths.
-Yes. She has been an important part of my life and my story. I will always be grateful to have been a part of it.
