The singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran has announced that he will release his album, Subtracton May 5, 2023. It will be his last job math series over 12 years. The album revisits the singer-songwriter’s roots and was written in a context of pain, but also of personal hope, and presents him in a vulnerable and honest facet.
“I was working on it Subtract for a decade, trying to carve out the perfect acoustic album. I’ve written and recorded hundreds of songs with a clear vision of what it should be.
Then, in early 2022, a series of situations changed my life, my mental health and ultimately the way I viewed music and art,” the artist wrote in his diary. last February trying to give it the right meaning of Subtract.
“I can say that writing songs is my therapy. It helps me make sense of my feelings. I wrote without thinking about what the songs would be, I just wrote what came out and in just over a week I replaced a decade of work with my deepest, darkest thoughts.”
And he continued: “Within a month my pregnant wife was told she had cancer with no cure until after delivery. My best friend Jamal, a brother to me, passed away suddenly and I found myself in court defending my integrity and career as a songwriter. I was going through a spiral of fear, depression and anxiety.”
Faced with these circumstances, Sheeran wrote in his diary: “I felt like I was drowning, with my head below the surface, looking up without being able to get air.”
“As an artist, I felt unable to credibly present to the world a body of work that did not accurately represent where I am and how I need to express myself at this point in my life.
This album is purely that. It’s opening the door to my soul. For the first time, I’m not trying to make an album that people like, I’m just putting out something that’s honest and true to where I am in my adult life.”
Sheeran, considered one of the most talented songwriters today who analyzes his own experiences so that his audience finds comfort and belonging, according to his own statements and is now preparing the release of an album that is revealing both in its emotionality and depth of the compositions.
