For ten days the suffocating heat has not let up in the city of Buenos Aires and in the suburbs of Buenos Aires. This Friday will be no exception: they are expected maximum around 37 degrees.
In the face of this prolonged heat wave, the National Weather Service (SMN) maintain red alert due to “very dangerous” extreme temperatures for the city of Buenos Aires, La Plata and other municipalities in the suburbs of Buenos Aires.
Even the national body issued orange alerts for northeastern Buenos Aires province and western Entre Ríoswhile yellow level alerts continue for cities in the provinces of Buenos Aires, Entre Ríos, Corrientes, Misiones, Santa Fe, Córdoba, Santiago del Estero and Salta.
Due to the intensity of the heat that has not ceased for more than a week, the areas affected by the red alert are the city of Buenos Aires and the Buenos Aires cities of La Plata, Berisso, Ensenada, Brandsen, Cañuelas, Magdalena, San Vicente , Esteban Echeverría , Ezeiza, La Matanza and Merlo with maximum temperatures that will fluctuate between 34 and 37 degrees, although higher thermal sensations are expected.
Similarly, in the southern zone of Greater Buenos Aires, the affected areas are Almirante Brown, Avellaneda, Berazategui, Florencia Varela, Lanús, Lomas de Zamora, Presidente Perón and Quilmes, where temperatures are expected to exceed 35 degrees.
The red level is the maximum alert ordered by the meteorological agency and indicates that temperatures in that area can be “very dangerous and affect all people, even healthy ones”, therefore it is recommended to increase water consumption and not to expose oneself to the excess sun or in the central hours (between 10 and 16).
On the other hand, the SMN maintains an orange alert for the northeast of the province of Buenos Aires in cities such as Tigre, San Isidro, Campana and Zárate, and also for the west of Entre Ríos in Diamante, La Paz, Nogoyá , Paraná and Villaguay., with highs around 36 degrees in those coastal cities.
In addition, the rest of Entre Ríos, the north of the province of Buenos Aires, the entire territory of Corrientes and Santa Fe, the center and south of Misiones, the center and north of Córdoba and the southeast of Santiago del Estero are under yellow warning from temperatures that have a “mild to moderate effect on health”.
The yellow level which can “be especially dangerous for risk groups, such as boys and girls, people over 65, with chronic diseases” also includes the northwest of the province of Salta in the municipality of General José de San Martín and in the yungas of Orán, Iruya and Santa Victoria.
Given the high temperatures that have been recorded for days, the Ministry of Health has reiterated a series of recommendations to the population such as using sunscreen, hydrating, drinking water even when you are not thirsty, wearing loose clothing, avoiding exposure to the sun, wearing a hat, consume fruit and vegetables and avoid intense physical activity.
What will the weather be like this weekend?
In the next few days the red alert will be maintained due to the extreme heat with thermals that will be close to 40 degrees at the AMBA.
Parameters similar to those of this Friday are expected for this Saturday: little cloudy skies and temperatures that will range between a minimum of 23 degrees and a maximum of 37 degrees.
On Sunday the maximum temperature will be similar to that of Friday and Saturday, but with bad news: the minimum rises to around 26 degrees. An ideal weekend for the pool.
