The opera season of the Teatro Colón was officially inaugurated with the return of Faustby Charles Gounod. Among the various versions released between 1859-1869, the production that was presented was born in 2015 between theaters in Italy, Switzerland and Israel, and had the direction, set design, costumes, lights and choreography of Italian Stephen Poda and the musical direction of the British Jan Latham-König.

The baritone Vinícius Atique gave a convincing portrayal of Valentín in his Act II aria.

The cast was completed with excellent interventions by Juan Font (Wagner), Florencia Machado (Siébel) and Adriana Mastrángelo (Marta).

With the usual rigor in the various characterizations that are required of him, the choir conducted by Miguel Martínez shone and always performed flawlessly, especially in the famous fourth act chorus. The corps de ballet also shone with their great performance.

The musical direction in the hands of Jan Latham-Koenig at the helm of the Stable Orchestra kept the dramatic pace, at times with excessive volumes, and Gounod’s fine orchestration had moments of great beauty.

Poda was applauded as much as the lead singers at the final farewell.
