The series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” premieres on May 27 with a double episode on Disney+
Lucasfilm’s “Obi-Wan Kenobi” miniseries debuts as a double episode exclusively on Disney+ on May 27.
The story begins 10 years after the events of 2005’s “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith”, when Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) faced his greatest defeat: the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), who turned to the dark side becoming the famous Sith Lord villain Darth Vader.
To get in the mood for the series’ debut, check out the main information about the journey of the iconic character Obi-Wan Kenobi:
- Qui-Gon Jinn’s Padawan
Obi-Wan was trained by Master Yoda in childhood and became an apprentice to Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn. At the age of 25, he sets out on a quest with his master and that’s when they meet Anakin Skywalker – a child whom Qui-Gon Jinn feels has a very strong connection to the Force.
As his last living request, Qui-Gon Jinn asks Obi-Wan Kenobi to train Anakin Skywalker in order to make him a powerful Jedi.
- Anakin Skywalker’s Jedi
Obi-Wan Kenobi spends many years training Anakin Skywalker, with the intention of the young man also becoming a great jedi in the future.
However, much to Obi-Wan’s dismay, Anakin passes over to the Dark Side of the Force, which causes Obi-Wan to fight in a symbolic duel against the young Anakin, who now goes on to become the powerful villain Darth Vader, a Sith Lord. .
- Reference to the Force
Even after his death, which occurred because of Darth Vader, Obi-Wan continued to appear to those who are alive, having an extreme importance for young Luke Skywalker against Darth Vader in the attack on the Death Star.
In some other moments, Obi-Wan also appears showing that he is a character that has relevance in the entire Star Wars universe.
ABOUT “OBI-WAN KENOBI”
Apparently, “Obi-Wan Kenobi” will feature the return of Ewan McGregor (“The Impossible”) as the Jedi Master who trained Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), and years later introduced Luke Skywalker knowledge of the Force. If his participation is confirmed, it would not be a big surprise for the fans, but a reason for celebration, since McGregor brought the character to life in the saga created by George Lucasbetween episodes I and III.
The cast still has Moses Ingram (“The Queen’s Gambit”), Kumail Nanjiani (“The Eternals”), Indira Varma (“Exodus: Gods and Kings”), Rupert Friend (“Hitman: Agent 47”), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (“Straight Outta Compton: The Story of the NWA), Sung Kang (from the “Fast & Furious” franchise), Simone Kessel (“Reckoning: Settlement”) and Benny Safdie (“Pieces of a Woman”).
