Denzel Washington and Barry Keoghan are in talks to join ‘Gladiator’ sequel

Denzel Washington and the Oscar-nominated actor for the spirits of the island (The Banshees of Inisherin), Barry Keoghan, are in talks to join the cast of the sequel to Gladiatorfrom Paramount, which has Ridley Scott as director and Paul Mescal as star.

The new film will follow in the footsteps of the first and will seek the blockbuster of 2,000 Gladiatora film that grossed more than $460 million worldwide and was nominated for 12 Academy Awards, winning five, including Best Picture.

Washington is a name that goes around, as reported by Varietyand if his role in the sequel to Gladiatorhe would team up with Scott again after that American gangsterof 2007. And the two-time Oscar winner would be working with new Oscar nominees Paul Mescal and Barry Keoghan, whose participation in the Paramount film was just confirmed.

Paramount has set the film for a November 22, 2024 release.

David Scarpa is writing the script for the sequel, which Scott will direct and executive produce with Michael Pruss, via Scott Free. Keoghan is supposed to play Emperor Geta, all this if he takes the deal. Mescal was nominated for an Oscar this year for independent film after sunin which he composes the estranged father of a girl who spends an unforgettable summer with her.

Keoghan is coming off a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for the spirits of the islandset in 1920. It can also be seen in salt burningby Emerald Fennell, opposite Jacob Elordi, and is currently filming a film by Trey Edward Shults, with Jenna Ortega and The Weeknd.

The perspective of doing gladiator 2 it was complicated by the fact that the titular gladiator character, Maximus Decimus Meridius, played by Russell Crowe, died at the end of the original film.
