In the heart of downtown Buenos Aires, in an auditorium for 100 people equipped with modern technology (designed by acoustic engineer Gustavo Basso), previews of contemporary works were heard and the film was seen The interpretation of dreams by director Ignacio Masllorens.
“Life is an extraordinary dream when there is the possibility of imagining a transformation and being able to accompany it”, is written in the concert programme.
In the same program you can read the motivations that led to the foundation of a project like ArtHaus in these calamitous times: “Building, proposing alternatives, unbalancing the existing, tracing channels between areas already explored and others to be discovered. It also risks the stimulation of the apparently superfluous and why not, the conquest of the useless”.
The initiative in favor of musical development and creation in Argentina deserves to be celebrated.
One of the planned works Transparent maze (2021), by the Argentine composer Pablo Borrás, won the ArtaHus 2022 National Composition Competition (promoted by the Foundation of the same name) and the work will be published. The necessary circuit of composing, auditioning and publishing Argentine music completes its complete cycle.
Rhythm is the axis that runs through the four works that make up the inaugural programme. Each creates a unique sensation of movement and fluidity according to the way time is organized or abolished, perhaps in tune with the dreamlike temporality proposed by the title of the concert and film.
Although the narration of the film sometimes did not play in favor of a favorable interaction with music. Nor the captioning of his subtitles.
night begins
The evening opened with Of construction (2021), by Andrès Buhar. An evocative process of metamorphosis between pulsed and non-pulsed tempo unfolds through the different contrasting sections of the piece.
The tension produced by the accumulated energy of the intermittent gestures and the irregularity of the processes was carried with great skill by the sextet, under the direction of Ezequiel Menalled.
Labertino Transparente shares the same premise, combining regular and irregular rhythm. Different strategies – interference, intermittence, interruption or alternation – drive the attractive sound and the time course. The material of the piece, as Borrás explains in the program, Follows from the intro of the song. bloody peach by LA Spinettabut the reference remains hidden.
