As originally, participants will compete in a series of qualifying competitions, leading to the semi-finals and the grand final.

The spin-off production is expected to be done by ASC Inc., as well as Toronto-based Insight Productions known for its shows The Amazing Race Canada at To Canada.

The broadcaster and the identity of the host and/or hostess will be announced in the coming weeks.

Although it marked the start of Eurovision in Canada, it was not the first time the event had featured Canadian talent.

At age 20, Celine Dion won in 1988 Eurovision Song Contestwhile representing Switzerland.

Eurovision has a long history in Europe where it was created in 1956 as part of an effort to unite European countries after World War II through cross-border television programming.

Over the years, it has helped launch the international careers of ABBA, Julio Iglesias and, more recently, Italian rock band Måneskin. It has also gained a reputation for offbeat performances featuring elegant costumes and sets.

Earlier this year, NBC launched a spin-off television production dubbed American Song Contestwith artists from each of the 50 U.S. states competing for a top prize to be awarded on May 9th.

Insight Productions producer Lindsay Cox called Canada a perfect home for the next iteration of the competition.

The phenomenal songwriting and exceptional music of this country is able to stand out the rest of the world.

A quote from Lindsay Cox

Eurovision gained significant online subscribers outside its broadcast countries, and was parodied in 2020 in comedy Eurovision Song Contest : the story of the Fire Sagastarring Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams.
