The director of the Cannes Film Festival, Thierry Fremaux, said if new films from controversial directors are over Woody Allen AND Roman Polanskythey would consider displaying them during the festival, which starts in May.

“I don’t think Roman Polanski’s film (The palace, with Fanny Ardant and… Mickey Rourke) is ready for the Cannes Film Festival. Perhaps the Woody Allen film (Occasion cup) Yes. We will position ourselves in this sense depending on the situation”, assured the director of the renowned film festival to the specialized magazine Variety.

Both directors were accused of sexually abusing girls decades ago.

On several occasions Polanski has been accused of having sexual relations with several minors and of fleeing American justice in France, while Allen has received accusations from his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow of sexually abusing her when she was seven years old.

Almodóvar, opening?

Frémaux also denied rumors that the short strange way to liveby Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar, will be the film that will open the event which will take place from 16 to 23 May, but he has ensured that it will be part of the programming.

“It won’t be opening night. It’s a rumor, but I like rumors, they’re part of the Cannes mythology,” said the manager.

The 30-minute film is a western about homosexuality starring Pedro Pascal and Ethan Hawke, in which two gunmen become lovers.

The Spaniard had already been part of Cannes, he is a regular on the Côte d’Azur. First in 1999 with his film All about my motherwith which he won the award for best director, in 2006 with Returnwhich made him the winner of the award for best screenplay, and in 2017 he was president of the jury.

Bring back Martin Scorsese

Frémaux confessed that one of his priorities for the next edition of the Festival is to bring American director Martin Scorsese back to Cannes with his most recent film, The flower moon killers, a film that, finally, already has a release date in the United States. It will be in October.

Incredibly, the last time the director of Taxi driver presented a film at the festival was in 1986, with black humorous satire after hours.

The new film, which was originally set to see the light of day in 2022, is the adaptation of David Grann’s book of the same name, which follows the serial murders of native Osage tribesmen in the struggle for oil in the 1920s and stars for his two big stars, Robert De Niro and Leonardo Di Caprio.

Another of the films that the director hopes to have in the pipeline this year is Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the film in which actor Harrison Ford reprized his role of the popular and intrepid archaeologist at the age of 80. with the title Indiana Jones and the Call of Fatewill be released in Argentina on Thursday June 29, one day earlier in the United States.
