José Luis Espert, who recently confirmed that he has started talks with the leaders of Together for Change form “a new space of opposition against Kirchnerism” in the province of Buenos Aires and intending to take a “mega STEP”, ventured some possible denominations for that front and said that, inexorably, it should contain the word “freedom”.
“Together for freedom and change is this a new political conformation for the province or for the whole country?” asked the leader of Avanza Libertad who declares himself governor of Buenos Aires on LN+. The liberal economist reiterated, as he acknowledged on Monday, that “the formation of a new space of opposition where Juntos por el Cambio converges” is “an idea” that speaks “with the referents” of that space.
In this sense, after highlighting the values of Together for Change, he clarified that in the new front, in the event of adjustment, liberalism must be “on an equal footingwith an adjustment for the votes that everyone gets, with the Civic Coalition, radicalism and PRO, and that there is a fourth chair that belongs to the liberals”.
It was there that he took it a step further and slipped in the name he would give it: “I would like that space of opposition to have the letter (sic) ‘freedom’ inside Juntos por el Cambio. “Together for change and freedom” OR “Together for freedom and change”One way or another”.
“I think the word ‘freedom’ should be present in any oppositional space that claims to defend common sense ideas,” he added.
At the same time, he denied that with the possible formation of this front he “betrays the liberal cause”, a discussion that apparently takes place between exponents of that current which has as another reference Javier Milei, with whom Espert maintains differences. “When I had hair, 30 years ago, I was already a liberal. However, since I started the policy I can not participate‘ she complained.
“In 2019 they said that I was functional to Cristina Kirchner, now (they say) that I am functional to one or the other. I am a liberal and like any citizen, if I fulfill all the duties to run, I will run. The votes belong to the people, they belong to nobody,” she remarked.
Conversations with Together for change
Espert assured on Monday that his teams continue to tour the territory while working “very hard”. “The news of the last few days is this We started talking with Together for Change“, advancement.
“I met the main referents, the engineer Macri including, of course, with Patricia Bullrich, with Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, with Lilita Carrió, with Raúl Cornejo, Gerardo Morales… With [el radical] Maxi Abad I will meet next week,” he explained. That day he excluded JxC MP Graciela Ocaña, whom he met on LN+ on Tuesday and promised to speak shortly.
And he added: “We are starting to talk about something very important, which is the formation of a new space of opposition in which liberalism is a part. A historical fact after I proposed in 2021, for the legislatures of that year, to form a large PASSO. Now we would go further,” Espert said.
“He wouldn’t be alone a mega STEP of opposition to Kirchnerismbut we are seeing the possibility that liberalism institutionally is part of a new alliance, a new space of opposition,” he continued.
And he said the aim is for the ruling party “not only to walk away in the next election and be defeated, but also for it to never come back.”
Finally, when asked if he would go to STEP against the JxC candidate, Diego Santilli, or other candidates who come from the hand of Patricia Bullrich, the deputy answered yes: “It could be, the idea is to compete”.
