BTS’ Jimin Breaks Record for Best-Selling K-Pop Artist in First Week in South Korea

Korean singer Park Ji-min, better known as Jiminbeat the record for solo artist who has sold the most copies in South Korea in the first week of an album’s release, selling 1.45 million copies facepublished on March 24th.

Sales figures for the album were released on Friday, March 31 by Hanteo Chart, a music industry tracking company in South Korea.

The previous record was held by Lim Young-woon, a successful ballad singer who released 772,000 copies of his first studio album, I am Heroin its first week when it was released in May of last year.

The seven members of the band wanted to take advantage of this period to carry out the military service, which is mandatory for men in South Korea, and concentrate on personal projects.

In recent months, other band members such as RM, J-Hope or Jin have taken the opportunity to also release solo studio works.

Jimin made his debut with the BTS septet in 2013, and has released several solo songs in the past ten years in parallel with the group’s activity. For example Lie, serendipity, with you and most recently, a collaboration with BIGBANG vocalist Taeyang called vibration.
