About ten years ago, on his travels around the world, Bruno Blanchet fell in love with Thais to the point of permanent residence in this country, as did his son Boris. She now lives in Bangkok with her husband, Tayajit Sittiwanakul, and divides her time between running marathons, scuba diving and recording her podcast. Bruno Blanchet’s travel academy.

The idea of Melancholitis first grew up with lead director Arnaud Bouquet, who worked with the author on the series The departure is different, eat the world at Mr. Vacation. Bruno.

Bruno Blanchet was immediately attracted to the friend’s proposal, his characters never really left him. I’ve heard about them for 20 years, so I know they’re still there in people’s hearts. If I can bring them back and make the public happy, so much the betterhe explains behind his webcam.

I really needed a damn good reason to bring back that universe, and the reason was perfect: it was melancholy. Nostalgia for the past, the sadness to think that nothing is as good as before.

The feeling of doing a bad bang

It’s Guy Jodoin, Bruno Blanchet’s first -time colleague, who suffers from melancholitis. He spends his days watching old sketches of the duo during Do not fix your dryer. He feeds into the plot of the series, as Bruno travels throughout Quebec on the run to collect testimonies of love for his friend and release him from his frustration.

This plot is largely a reason to revive the characters of the two friends, and the list of what we see in the series is quite complete. The chemistry that works between the two performers is intact.

The actor is sitting on a couch and holding frames in an orange living room.

More than the nods of the past, Melancholitis presents from the early stages of new anthology scenes. The one where Bruno Blanchet and Guy Jodoin presented themselves with their simplest device threatened to make an impression.

This series has lent itself to this kind of delinquency. It is as if we have the right to do evil. The whole series seems to be doing a bad job.

Anne-Marie Losique’s revenge

Melancholitis is also a way for Bruno Blanchet to make changes and offer some sort of revenge to personalities he has flayed over time, Anne-Marie Losique being the first. He also plays the main antagonist of Bruno and his band in the series, along with Gaston, a hilarious new character who fits perfectly with the old ones.

However, the comedian insisted on saying that between him and Anne-Marie Losique, it was always fair game. I didn’t make fun of him, because from the moment I felt it might create discomfort, I interacted with him. I said to her: “Anne-Marie, are you that cool?”he recalled.

[Quand je l’ai approchée pour La mélancolite], yes he immediately. I don’t think she even read the script before saying yes.

But the comedian also says the series is a bit like the new Bruno Blanchet’s revenge on the old. In everything I did, I was always the victim of my gags, the Turk’s head. This series allows people I may have hurt to take revenge, but it can also be Bruno’s revenge today on Bruno yesterday.

FouKi’s first role

The web series also allowed FouKi, whose real name is Léo Fougères, to land his first role on screen. Regularly on cameras in his career as a rapper, the young actor performed very well in his role as Vincent, nephew of Guy Jodoin who accompanied Bruno on his journey, along with the latter’s adopted daughter, played by Jade Barshee.

When asked who he would like to play with the two youngsters, Bruno Blanchet first felt left out; after 15 years away from Quebec, he knew very little about the next generation. However, he fell in love with FouKi during the writing of the series by watching the music video of Gaye.

The stars seem to be aligned, as FouKi is the nephew of Pierre-Michel Tremblay, script-editor of Melancholitis. Despite his lack of experience, the rapper accepted the challenge with enthusiasm, feeling a certain connection between his universe and Bruno’s, both of which were somewhat offbeat.

He’s the coolest guy on the set, Bruno Blanchet explains. No problem; his fun, he improvises, his fun, he’s not in a hurry, he’s on time. And he was always annoyed.

A unified project and flawless filmmaking

This impression that everything naturally flowed into FouKi, Bruno Blanchet felt throughout the filming of Melancholitisdoing so brought together dozens of workers and women workers from several generations.

Obviously, it’s not just the comedian who wants to dive back into the absurd time of The end of the world is at seven o’clock at Do not fix your dryer. In addition to Guy Jodoin, he was able to bring together several collaborators such as Guylaine Tremblay, Francis Reddy, Christian Bégin, Marc Labrèche, Georges St-Pierre and Maxime Gervais.

It was a one-off project, everyone on the film crew wanted to be a part of that moment. There is a kind of feeling of being part of a historical momenthe explains, before moving on to the possibility of a second season.

Certainly if there is a second year, the whole team will be together again, because a team atmosphere is formed.
