Other video game characters from the past, such as Pikachu and sonorous They had recent film adaptations that, with more or less luck, were minimally funny. From Super Mario Bros There have already been other attempts, even with actors, like the one exactly three decades ago, with Bob Hoskins as Mario, John Leguizamo as Luigi, his brother, and Dennis Hopper as the evil Bowser.

The plot of this new Super Mario Bros.: The Movie It looks a bit like that of that film, which for some fans has become a cult.

Then, whether the film is good or not is another thing.

But thankfully yes, the plot, which is simple for any child to follow – although there will surely be more parents in theaters who have played the video game than their children – is well done and there are good effects.

There is a subtitled version

For adults or those who don’t want to hear Mexican accented voices rather than neutral Spanish, be aware that there are rooms that show the film in its original language, with Spanish subtitles. And so they will be able to recognize (or not) the voices of Chris Pratt (it’s, of course, Mario) or our Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Jack Black and Seth Rogen. So think twice.

Going back to history, the most famous plumbing brothers in the world, or at least in Brooklyn, New York, those who sit at a long table with the whole family together, and who from time to time launched a “Mamma mia!” they invested everything in an advertising campaign. They don’t fare very well, until working underground to fix some water pipes, they are transported through a mysterious pipe to a new world.

Since nothing can go right – from the beginning, to the beginning – the brothers separate, and the one in the red overalls (Mario) goes to look for the one in the green overalls (Luigi). Because, together, nothing can go wrong.

Mario meets Princess Peach in the Mushroom Kingdom -just him, who doesn’t like eating mushrooms-, who gives him a quick learning course that has a lot to do with the spirit of the original video game, including the rainbow paths.

And yes, there is Jack Black, when we were already wondering in which last film we had seen or heard him, lending his voice to Bowser, that red-eyed dragon, and Seth Rogen in Donkey Kong.

The plot is simple, so that the little ones can understand it, certainly accompanied by their parents who are passionate about video games.

Super Mario Bros.: The Movie It’s funny, five minutes after it’s over you forget everything, it’s not like it has memorable scenes. Fans are sure to appreciate its appeal to their emotional memory.

And another fact for fans: the film has Charles Martinet, the voice actor who played the characters Mario and Luigi from the games of Super Mario for more than 30 years.
