the brazilian singer Anittaone of the most recognized Latin artists on the international scene, has managed to terminate her contractual relationship with record company Warner Music, after eleven years together, the parties reported on Tuesday.
“After eleven years of successful association, we have decided to go our separate ways,” reads the joint statement released by Anitta and Warner Music.
The gentle tone of the announcement is surprising given that Anitta had harshly criticized the US label for the management of her music career and last month he went so far as to say he would sell his “organs” to get out of his contract who joined the company.
Anitta’s complaints
“My love, if there had been a (termination) fine to pay, I would have already auctioned my organs, however expensive, to get out. But unfortunately there is not,” he said later on his social networks.
A few days later he lashed out again against Warner Music by revealing an email he had sent to the president of the record company to communicate his discomfort at the little attention they were giving him, despite his international success.
“Respect me and give me a modicum of importance. At least give me the honest, respectful and fair conversation I’ve requested instead of sending your lawyers to talk to mine about money,” he chided the company’s management.
It wasn’t the first time Anitta had complained about Warner.. He has criticized the label for having to pay out-of-pocket for music videos, including the one for cat, for which he claimed that Warner refused to produce a video when they saw the performance of the song on the platforms was below expectations. “They invest only after it pays for itself on the Internet,” she said.
In May of last year, Anitta said Warner only invests in her work when the song goes viral on TikTok. “The label is very attached to TikTok, it goes viral, and if they don’t get instant success, they say ‘so far,'” she said in an Instagram live stream.
In support of his idol, fans organized a #FreeAnitta movement on Twitter.
Now, in a more cordial tone, the parties have tried to put their differences behind them and end their relationship in peace: “Anitta would like to thank the team at Warner Music for all their support. And the team at Warner wishes Anitta everything the best for her future,” highlighted the short note, to which the Brazilian replied on her Instagram profile.
