About ten years ago the union of four musicians from important bands was born From the earth, who just released his third album, his first in seven years. The delay was due to the pandemic and also the hectic schedule of his groups Serious, Manna, puja AND ANIMAL
They are Andreas Kisser, Alex González, Harold Hopkins Miranda and Andrés Giménez. The first two chatted by Zoom on this new stage of the group.
Regarding the brand new De La Tierra III, recorded in the legendary Criteria Studios, Andreas assures that “When we finish an album we always feel happy and proud”.
Alex expands, saying, “We were ready to record this record before the pandemic, and then we had to wait, so now I’m very happy with the end result and the whole process.”
“There are always new and original bands”
-How do you see the current metal scene?
Andrew: -It’s a very positive moment, one of the best. Here in Brazil all the concerts are full, just like in all of South America. Now with Sepultura we will play with Kiss and Deep Purple in a city four hours away from São Paulo, so Brazil is not only Rio and São Paulo. And Sepultura has an excellent calendar.
I have had a radio show for 11 years and there are always new bands, very original and with a lot of energy, like Black Pantera.
-Did you imagine that the De La Tierra project would have so much continuity and three albums? Because everyone has their main band.
Alex: We always knew that the hardest thing for this group would be booking concerts, even more than recording, because we all have our bands. But I see the future very positive. We are four people who deeply love music and play our instruments. Plus, there’s some amazing chemistry. The way we work is very old-fashioned: we go into a rehearsal room and everyone brings ideas, we play them and we record everything.
Andrew: -During the pandemic we released a single with an original, new and acoustic theme. So let’s try to put it on the disk From Earth III, but ultimately decided against it because it was something else. As Alex says, recording isn’t the problem, it’s setting times so we can all tour together.
How is the third album?
-How would you describe this new 3.0 sound of the group?
Andrew: -The main difference is the bass player, because it’s the first album we work with Harold, which is more metal, with a heavier and thicker sound. But you also feel that he’s from Puerto Rico, because of the beats and percussion. He has very interesting and very different things compared to Mr. Flavio, with whom it was incredible to work on the previous albums. They are all very different works for the metal world.
Alex: -I did good handlebars with him, due to Latino background, being Puerto Rican and my mother Cuban. I have some of that Latin music school. De La Tierra is the sound of four personalities.
-Let’s talk about the fourth member: Andrés Giménez. How would you describe him and what is his signature talent?
Andrew: -He is an incredible force, with good vibes and energy, always ready to get things done. Andrés is an incredible composer and a fantastic composer, always ready to make suggestions. We all work to improve the project.
One change is that Flavio wrote many lyrics and in a unique way. Now Andrés has taken on that responsibility and has done a fantastic job.
Alex: -Andres also does the lyrics and for me it’s a pleasure to watch them work, with that fusion of Portuguese and Spanish. And with some fantastic guitar work. I am happy to play, I enjoy what is happening around me. We hope to be able to play live soon. We’ll start to see where we can find gaps, especially at festivals. We will have news soon.
