Vincent Lindon will replace American director Spike Lee who, along with his jury, crowned Frenchwoman Julia Ducournau’s film in July 2021.

It is an enormous honor and an enormous pride to see me entrusted, in the midst of the turmoil of the many events we are going through in the world, the magnificent and formidable duty of jury leadership. of the Festival, declared Vincent Lindon, quoted in the press release of the event organizations flowing to celebrities and people on the Croisette of Cannes, in France.

Together with my jury, we will do our best to preserve future films, all of which have secret hope, courage, honesty and freedom; that the mission is to move the greatest number of women and men by talking to them about their wounds and their common joy. Culture helps the human soul to rise and hope for tomorrowHe added.

This announcement will come at the end of a long suspense: usually, the president of the jury is known at the beginning of the year and the jury is revealed a few weeks before the Festival.

With the resumption of post-pandemic cinema and the rise of the series, all actors workunderlined in mid-April Thierry Frémaux, the general delegate of the Festival, to justify this chaotic calendar.

The names of actresses Penélope Cruz and Marion Cotillard have spread in the expert press, without confirmation, as well as the name of Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, who will eventually become a member of the jury.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker was recently charged with plagiarism by an Iranian court, after one of his students filed a complaint following the release of his latest film. A heroGrand Prix in Cannes last year.

A faithful of Cannes

By selecting Vincent Lindon, 62, the Festival is betting on a Cannes loyalist, who has shown nine feature films on the site since 1987 and wants to talk 7at art during masterclasses at the Cinémathèque française or at the Institut Lumière. No French personality has held this position since actress Isabelle Huppert in 2009.

On screen, the actor often represents an angry contemporary man, with obvious weakness, as in The law of the market by Stéphane Brizé, a painful film about the cruelty of the world of work that won him an interpretation prize in 2015.

In search of a director after three years, and the marches of Cannes, he presented in 2018 In warwhere he encamped a union representative fighting to prevent the closure of his factory.

Last July, he was shocked as a firefighter who was all in the muscle and beaten [qui] marked bodies, hearts and mindssaid the Festival.

Close to Thierry Frémaux, Vincent Lindon will have to choose Palme d’or out of 21 films in the competition, including the latest opus by Canadian David Cronenberg or by Russian Kirill Serebrennikov, which violates the Putin regime’s line.

A bare-chested man seemed to be staring at something high in concern.

Jeff Nichols on the jury

She will be supported on this mission by Anglo-American actress and director Rebecca Hall, specifically seen in Vicky Cristina Barcelona; the Swedish Noomi Rapace, announced in 2009 in the first adaptation of the Millennium saga; the Italian Jasmine Trinca, whose first feature film Marcel! will be presented in a special session and the Indian Deepika Padukone.

Four prominent directors will complete this jury: Iranian Asghar Farhadi; Frenchman Ladj Ly, that’s the movie Kawawa received the 2019 Jury Prize at Cannes; the American Jeff Nichols, who staged his film loving in 2016 at the Croisette; and Norwegian Joachim Trier, whose film Julie in 12 chapters won an award for female interpretation last year.
