Three months after the scandal that caused the release of his song with Bizarrap, in which he destroyed Gerard Piqué, Shakira posted a statement in which she made a serious claim for her children to the media.
After leaving Barcelona and moving to Miami, USA, the Colombian singer asked reporters and photographers who respect the “right to privacy” of their children, Milan and Sasha.
With a long text that he posted on his Instagram and Twitter accountsamong which accumulates about 140 million followers, the ex-wife of Gerard Piqué implored journalists “to refrain from following (her children) until she has left or entered school.”
In turn, Shakira dropped a criticism of the Spanish mediawhich he accused of having made Barcelona experience “an incessant siege and implacable persecution”.
In that statement, also the Colombian described as “very difficult” the final year experienced by both Milan and Sashafollowing her parents’ public and controversial separation.
Towards the end of the application, the artist explained this makes this request from the place of “a mother who wants to protect and take care of the psychological and emotional well-being of their children.
This publication, which already has more than 300 thousand “likes” between the two social networks, has been released the day after, the singer from Barranquilla celebrated Easter for the first time on American soilaway from Piqué and surrounded by her parents and children.
Indeed, the photo preceding this release is that of a rabbit named Toby, the family pet, along with several chocolate eggs typical of this religious celebration. “Toby wishes you a Happy Easter,” Milan and Sasha’s mom wrote on her Instagram account.
Full statement from Shakira
Dear friends, journalists and media, in this moment of changes in my life as a public figure, it is understandable that there is a permanent curiosity from the press around me and my family.
However, my children, Milan and Sasha, have had a very difficult year, enduring an unceasing siege and relentless persecution by the paparazzi and various media in Barcelona.
Now that they are starting a new phase in their lives, I strongly ask the media, on behalf of my children, to respect their right to privacy.
Please refrain from following them to the exit or entrance of the school, waiting for them at the door of our house, or chasing them to their extracurricular and leisure activities, as happened every day in Barcelona, in order to get caught photos or best ratings.
I trust that journalists and photographers are sensitive to the situation that Milan and Sasha are facing and can behave in the most humane way possible with them, bearing in mind that it concerns the health and physical and emotional integrity of two minors aged 8 and 10 who only want being able to go out and attend school feeling safe and having the peace of mind of not being persecuted or subjected to constant scrutiny by the cameras.
I extend this request no longer as an artist, but as a mother who wants to protect and take care of her children’s psychological and emotional well-being so that they can live a healthy and happy life, as every child deserves.
Thanks for your understanding and support.
