“In a Neighborhood of New York” director John M. Chu has released the premiere date for the “Wicked” musicals
The director John M. Chu, from “In a Neighborhood of New York”, revealed this Tuesday (26), that the film adaptation of the musical “Wicked” will be divided into two parts. The first feature, which will star Ariana Grande (“Don’t Look Up”) and Cynthia Erivo (“Harriet”), will be released in theaters in 2024, while the sequel will not be released until 2025.
“While we were preparing for production last year, it became impossible to put the story of ‘Wicked’ in a single film without doing some real damage to it,” Chu said in a statement. “As we tried to cut music or trim characters, those decisions started to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that had entertained us for so many years. We decided to give ourselves a bigger screen and make not just one ‘Wicked’ movie, but two! With more space, we can tell the story of ‘Wicked’ as it was meant to be told, bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys of these beloved characters.”
