In the Disney+ series, artists teach viewers how to draw characters
“From Sketch to Reality”, a new Disney+ documentary series, takes audiences to the table and into the lives of talented Disney artists and animators.
Scheduled to premiere on April 27 at streamingepisodes feature the artists illustrating characters from the Walt Disney Animation Studios films they helped create, as well as telling their stories about how they came to Disney.
For those who enjoy all this production process and backstage, check below which are the characters designed by Eric Goldberg, Gabby Capili, Hyun Min Lee, Jin Kim, Mark Henn and Samantha Vilfort which are presented in “From Sketch to Reality”:
- Kuzco, from “The Emperor’s New Groove” (2000) – Design: Gabby Capili
In the movie “The Emperor’s New Groove” (2000), the arrogant Emperor Kuzco is transformed into a llama by his powerful and magical mentor named Yzma. Lost in the forest, his only chance to regain his throne is with the help of Pacha, a humble peasant. Together, they must face the witch before completing their journey back to the throne.
- Olaf from “Frozen” (2013) – Design: Hyun Min Lee
The fearless princess Anna sets out on an ice adventure to find her sister, Elsa, and stop the curse of the eternal reverse, which is causing the entire kingdom to freeze. Olaf, the character drawn in one of the episodes, is a talking snowman created by Elsa and who lives in the mountains of Arendelle.
The 2013 animation features a second film released in 2019 that is also available on Disney+.
- The Genie from “Aladdin” (1992) – Design: Eric Goldberg
After the sultan orders his daughter Princess Jasmine to find a husband quickly, she flees the palace and meets Aladdin, a rogue and cunning man who ends up winning her heart. When she discovers a lamp in which a magical genie lives who can grant her three wishes, Aladdin seeks to conquer the dreamed princess while facing a powerful villain.
In the 1992 film, the genie was voiced by the legendary Robbie Williams. In 2019, a new live action of “Aladdin” that had Will Smith like the character.
- Captain Hook from “Peter Pan” (1953) – Design: Jin Kim
Wendy and her friends are taken to Neverland, where they meet their hero, Peter Pan. Along their adventure, they face the evil villain Captain Hook who wants to end the magical boy who never gets old.
“Peter Pan” is a 1953 film that had another version released in 2002. A live action of the film is in the production stage.
- Mirabel, from “Enchantment” (2021) – Design: Samantha Vilfort
Little Mirabel is the only one in her family who doesn’t have the magical powers of Enchantment, a wonderful place where they live. But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the place is in jeopardy, the girl, the only Madrigal without magical powers, may be her loved ones’ last hope.
“Enchant” won the 2022 Oscar for Best Animation.
- Young Simba, from “The Lion King” (1994) – Design: Mark Henn
When a young lion is expelled from his home after his uncle kills his father and steals the throne of King of the Jungle, Simba and his friends Timon and Pumbaa reappear as adults to reclaim their stolen land and finish off the villain.
The 1994 animation also has a live action released in the year 2019.
